How else do you **** with people?

That's what I thought. Just made me wonder if people are really that strange to go to such lengths with random strangers. I guess I should know the answer to that though, having seen some of the threads in FOTB before

Depends how it's done, trolling has connotations of making someone else look silly by tricking them or humouring then ironically or taking an inflammatory stance (ie pretending to be racist to get them riled up).

A troll is a fictional bipedal and almost humanoid mammal that is portrayed in many different manners in popular culture. Common features tend to be warts, long gray hair, and a large crooked nose and poor posture. They are typically brutish in both their appearance and demeanor. They are quick to anger, and resolve their problems with physical violence.

A good metaphor would be Elves = white people whereas Trolls = Afro-Americans.

Acting like an asshole/idiot/ignorant intentionally and saying ridiculous shit with the sole and lonesome purpose of pissing people off and making them rage-fit, which is great entertainment. Most fun on members of certain fandoms that attract a lot of aspies (Furries, Bronies, Sonic fans, Metal fans) who are really prone to throwing fits.

However, trolling is NOT the same as bullying. The difference is that bullying acts on an emotional and excessively personal level with excessively harsh insults and personal attacks. Whereas trolling is just ruining someone's mood.

Example, using furries as a subject:

Trolling:

"Lol stupid fucking furfag. $50 you attach fucking fleshlights to teddy bear you sick zoophilie. Don't even try to deny it, the whole fucking world knows it's true. I bet you even like to rape dogs while wearing a wolf costume!"

Bullying:

"Disgusting furfag piece of shit. Seriously, you are quite possibly the worst fucking waste of human organs your mother could've possibly shit out from her ****. Seriously, do the entire world a favor and put a bullet through your head, make everyone including your sad, regretful family feel better!"

See the difference?

Should have expected it.

Both of those excerpts seem like perfectly valid things to say to a furry.

Insulting people directly isn't trolling. Or maybe it can be, I guess it basically comes down to the idea of one person getting annoyed while staring into a computer screen and another person laughing smugly while staring into another computer screen.
But simply insulting people over the internet like that isn't clever. My personal definition of trolling is that it has to be somewhat clever, otherwise it's just childish bullying.

Yeah that's how I see it really... I just. I dunno, I see trolling as something that the intelligent among us can see as just that, whereas the lesser-able fall for. Just flat-out insulting someone doesn't really fall into that category for me, as it just makes the 'troll' look like a dick from the first post, and the 'I'm just trolling' seems like a get-out clause when everyone holds the opposing opinion.

I'm ready for silly answers, but what do you guys think is a fair amount to charge someone as a tutor? Does $20 a session seem too much or too little?

Fifteen or twenty depending on your experience seems reasonable for a 30 minute lesson, you can always adjust the rates anyway.
