good humbucker under $50

Hi

I am looking for a decent humbucker under $50. It will be for my cheap strat which I'm making into a "Tom Delonge" strat.

I want it to have good cleans, but nice dirt as well. My current amp is a fender mustang 2.
I play everything from Switchfoot to Green Day to RHCP to Lifehouse. I also play in a worship band, so a good clean tone is a must.

Also, can someone suggest good wire for the wiring, and tell me what type of 500k pot for volume control I will need?

Thanks

If you can get Iron Gear pickups in the States, I'd strongly advise one of those.

You need an audio taper pot. Wire doesn't make that much of a difference, just use the spools you can get from radio shack. I would recommend checking guitarfetish pickups. Cheap and pretty good sounding.

I recommend pickups from here
http://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-Guitar-Pickups_c_7.html

This wire
http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electro...&xst=3&xsr=3158

These pots, you'll want the 500k solid shaft, however if you want to have a slightly warmer sound, a 250k might also be something to consider

I know ordering from two different places is a drag, but shielded wire will likely significantly reduce hum plus it'll make for a cleaner wiring job. CTS makes some of the best pots around barring bourne, who sells for $20 a piece. GFS makes some really good discount pickups.

I suggest the GFS Fat Pat. I have one in the bridge of an LP clone and it sounds nice and fat. It cleans up nice and can handle quite a bit of gain.

You can grab a used Seymour Duncan '59 or Dimarzio PAF 36th off ebay. Don't think you'll need anything hotter than a PAF copy.

Honestly, I think shielded cable and CTS pots are overkill if you're just putting GFS pickups in. If you have a problem with noise, the best thing to do is just to shield with tape rather than buy a load of that wire.

They might be, but if you're gonna revamp your electronics you might as well do it right.

In my findings there is very little difference if any between Alpha pots and CTS

Problem is you don't know the extent of the noise until after you have finished the wiring. Having to go back and rip it up to then redo it with shields and shielded cable just becomes a PITA when you could have just done it that way to start with.

While I cannot vouch for all of their pickups... I just picked up the GFS Overwound Liverpool Retrotron (against the recommendation of several individuals here who make the inference that if you only spend $40 you're going to get a piece of crap....).

I think the Liverpool is a great pickup. It was designed to go in a hollow, or semi-hollow body but I dropped it in a Strat copy and it sounds fantastic.

Well I just use standard unshielded wire and I've never had a problem with noise...
