Amp with enough clean headroom for band practice under $600
I'm looking at the blackstar ht-40 right now, but even that's a bit of a stretch for my budget at the moment.
I know 20 watts should be loud enough in a band situation, but I really want cleans. I have pedals and effects for my distortion so what are my options? I saw the bugera v55 but that brand sucks for so many reasons any ideas and help would be great!! I am looking used, but I need the amp by the end of the month so not too many options |

Actually the Bugera V22 and V55 are the models I have heard the least bad about.
But answer the sticky^^

Budget? -under 600 as the title says Genres? - What style do you play mostly, fav guitarists, do you need cleans, etc?- I need cleans as I stated New or Used? - stated I am also looking at used Home or Gig? - stated band situation Closest City? - phoenix Current Gear? - this info is not necessary I don't see how answering the last two changes anything. But if you are right, i should benefit greatly for answering those last two |

just looked at your craigs list, there are several Peavey classic 50 combos on there that are under your budget.
There is also a used Music man combo that would be titties for cleans $550 on there also. On guitarcenters used site they have 2 Music man heads for <$500 and they even have a Music man head and cab for <$500

Carvin Nomad/Bel-Air, 50w, spectacular cleans. My dad owns one and you can seriously push the thing high volumes before the power section distorts. 50w should be more than enough headroom.

Used Vox AC30 is an option as well, if you'd want another flavour than what Robb suggested. :-)

What isn't clear is whether you only want cleans or do you want something that can get dirty too?

$600 is a fairly generous budget on the used market. If you need dirt, let us know. I'm of the opinion that (good) amp distortion trumps pedals every time. With the vast majority of dirt pedals, it's a laughable contest (amp distortion sounding far better).

Oh ok, I missed that.
![]() Big old tube Fender or Music Man then. With the price you can pick up things like a Bandmaster in the US you'd be crazy not to take advantage of it.

Yeah. I'm picking up the bogner ecstasy pedals for distortion, plus i have a boss gt-10 that has tons of great models after tweaking them and an mxr distortion plus. I might pick up a keeley katana boost to make the cleans louder without distorting them.
I found an egnater rebel 30 for 400 that looks promising. the musicman seems cool, but i'm just not sold on musicman for some reason. I'm still looking, thanks for all the help. I'm starting a few bands to play lead in, but I really want good cleans at loud volume. They are a punk band, and some softer stuff. Then I'm also working on a southern style blues-rock type of band like the black crowes so not too gritty. the marco sfogli and petrucci stuff is solely to increase my technique and just make me better overall. I don't see me playing much of that in a band. |

The Bugera V55 is a great amp.
Have a look for a Kustom Defender (50W). Seriously nice amp that never got enough attention, and they're being sold off at ludicrously cheap prices (Thomann had them for £160 last year, I regret not getting one ).
