NGD perhaps a white Christmas after all
So we was Christmas shopping in London on Friday and decided to have a quick look around Denmark street.
We was in one shop and the guy was saying that because of the new 2013 models of Gibson's coming out soon they're have a bit of a sale on the older models. I've been looking at a standard with the 60's profile neck and coil taps for a while now and they had one there at almost half price, my fabulous wife made me buy it, in fact she bought it lol. Only had a short few goes over the weekend but it's just what I expected. The neck is very similar to my 60's SG but does have the modern neck joint. Doesn't suffer from neck dive what so ever. I've yet to play this through my amp and will be taking it to my next rehearsal to give it a good run through the Marshall, so I'll update once I've done that. Through my studio at home I've been able to get a very wide range of tones with the coil tapped pickups. I've listed the specs below, the build quality if fantastic. BODY Body Species: Mahogany NECK Species: Mahogany Profile: 1960 Slim Taper Peghead Pitch: 17 Thickness at 1st Fret: 0.818 Thickness at 12th Fret: 0.963 Heel Length: 0.625 Neck Joint Location: 19 Head Inlay: Crest FINGERBOARD Species: Rosewood Scale Length: 243/4" Total Length: 18.157 Number of Frets: 22 Nut Width: 111/16" Width at 12th Fret: 2.062 Inlays: Pearloid Trapezoid Fingerboard Binding: single-ply HARDWARE Plating Finish: Chrome Tailpiece: Stopbar Bridge: Tune-o-matic Knobs: Black Top Hat with silver insert Tuners: Schaller Green Key ELECTRONICS Neck Pickups: 490R Alnico magnet humbucker Bridge Pickups: 498T Alnico magnet humbucker Controls: Two volume, two tone, three-way switch, Coil Taps ![]() |

I've always loved white SGs more than the normal red ones.

How much d'you bust them down from at denmark street?
I've been there once or twice and all their stuff is overpriced HNGD though I like the white finish on the SG The bog standard red one is a bit boring tbh

I know they're not normally the cheapest in Denmark street but this was £699, for a guitar that retails at £1100. I did manage to get a free Gibson T-Shirt, some wooden plectrums and some strings though. |

So I've just got back from rehearsals and I took this guitar to give it a good test at volume.
I was amazed a how warm sounding it is (for an SG), the coil taps give it some great variations in it's tone and mixing one pickup tapped and the other not also gives great variations. This is easily one of my highest ranking guitars for versatiltity, I'm really pleased with it. It must've sounded impressive, the other guitarist in our band wanted to buy it off me lol. |
