Like most ******ed teenagers, I plan to go to college to get some back-up if my project with music fails.
I really don't know what to do though, I started a math minor to buy some time and get something done, but after this year I'll be lost again in the sea of the modern falsehood of hope. (the math turned out to be boring, although not too challenging) UG is the best place to ask, 'cause you don't know who the hell I am and we share a common passion : music. I am 17, 18 in 2 weeks, already wishing I could start my life over, so I want to know what other people did, yes, you people. What are you guys studying ? Or what DID you study ? Or just what did you do to make it in your life ? I'm looking for some advice here, and I'd like for you guys to share, if at least to get some inspiration, because besides my guitar, I don't know what else I love. |

How did you start a math minor at age 17 or in high school?
I'm 19 and studying Electronics Engineering. I'm in my second year and I just got hired for a software job at Ericsson. Shit's pretty cash. |

there is a whole world out there. even if you just meet one new person a day some cool stuff is bound to happen. maybe not cool per se but at least an adventure.

I don't know..... I tried engineering before math, earlier this year. I was doing industrial engineering, where you don't find a lot of physics (I hate physics, no offence), but it turned out to be utterly boring. Electronics is a good job though, especially in their cooperative program, they got the best internships ($$$). Quit after about a month, had to get that refund in time. |

Do whatever the **** you want.
I'm studying music at uni because I was sick of sitting on my arse in the family home, wondering what I was going to do with my life. I applied and auditioned cause I thought it might be fun, and I was right. I've got no idea what I'm going get out of it, if anything, or what I'm going to do after it's over but that's for future me to worry about. I'm just going to enjoy myself until then and then presumably come up with another distraction. |

I went into university not knowing what I wanted to do. I'm in third year and still have no idea. I'm currently in a business management program doing a major in marketing management and minor in professional communications. It's not bad and it has quite a bit of career opportunities apart from advertising like most people think.
Just talk to people (e.g. your professors) about the industry and what it offers. You'll get ideas and have a little more direction. |

I'm 17...Still no idea what I want to do. Honestly my two dream jobs would be composer, or game dev. Of course neither of those are practical, so I am going to college to possibly be a lawyer, or politician. Law, and politics are really the only realistic careers that interest me.

I'm 18. I'd like to do something musical or be an editor, preferably for novels.

Also, don't take advice from heavily career-minded people. I ****ing hate people who think that life is Birth>Childhood>Graduation>Work>Die. I know I could happily go my whole life without "getting a real job." Obviously from time to time you may have to work to survive, but I'm never planning on getting caught up in a career, and my life's goal is not "Earn lots of money and then die" like so many others'.

I don't think that my level, or even style, would allow me to go beyond the auditions, it is worth a shot though, how does it go (the audition, requirements et...) ? EDIT: Just saw your other post, and I agree, I personally hate the way the whole job thing works in our world, but hey if I wanna get started with something a degree is always welcome to baby me to something good. That reminds me, today we had a career planning thing at school and I was basically called lazy and that I need to catch up with everybody else for not having a specific job in a future career already picked out. lol.
I'm a bit younger than you (16 about to turn 17) but I can say that you shouldn't rush to pick something. Experiment until you find what you like, and while going to school is a good idea, you don't have to strictly follow the born->childhood->graduation->work->die path. |

Jeez man, quit stressing it. Almost EVERYONE that age doesn't know what to do next. But relax, you still have time to decide that for yourself. I personally just went to an 8 month college to become a certified medical billing & coding specialist. Because whatever. I'll still get a decent paycheck.
