I don't really have time, because I simply don't possess the money to buy me that time. Studies aren't free, neither is food, rent etc... And the hobo lifestyle doesn't really appeal to me, you know. Last edited by yoyoloto : 12-03-2012 at 11:30 PM. |

I just figured college was my only option after high school. I was a pretty good student in high school, so that made it easier to get accepted. I'm studying chemistry, third year, and I'm almost clueless about what kind of job I want after college. I have a summer job, but it's just a side thing, but even I think I'm young enough to not know what exactly my career will be or my future. You've got time.

It depends entirely on the institution. I almost certainly cannot give you any advice in regards to that. If you're not confident with your performance you could always look into sound engineering instead. |

Go ahead, tell me what you did for your audition(style, instrument..), how hard it was and how experienced you were at the time. Anything is welcome. I think that the mystery is what's making me nervous. I tried doing the Dj stuff when I was younger, but I turned out to be better at a real instrument, turning that into a job is something else though. When I finished high school I had no idea what I wanted to do. I went into politics and economics at uni. It was a pretty tumultuous time in my life, and I soon became disinterested and basically wasted that year. Took the next year [this year] off and reevaluated my priorities.
tbh it was probably the best decision I've ever made. Still don't really know what I want to do; but am overall a much happier person. And I'm no longer stressed that I don't know what I want to do with my life. Probably going to shift my major towards philosophy of science next year, and keep music going on the side. Not sure about a career path - but I'm not so worried about that at the moment. I'd rather do/learn things that interest me ![]()

im about to turn 21 and I have no clue. I work a shitty mall job and still live with my parents.
The fact that education is so expensive really frustrates me and I really just don't know what I can do. Nothing seems to interest me besides music and I don't believe that will get me anywhere.

Don't force it. Spend a year on your own, supporting yourself. Smartest decision you could make. Then get the boring shit out of the way at a cheap community college. By then you should be ready to take a direction.

I'm 23 and studying Ancient History at uni, will actually be completely finished in less than a month's time. I switched course during my time here and still no idea what I want to do. I enjoy what I've studied but have no real interest in pursuing it.
It's scary because I'm about to be thrust out of uni and into the real world (cliche) without the faintest idea of what I want to do next. I have a desire to work in radio or something similar, having done a lot at student radio here but god knows. |

I remember being rly frustrated & depressed abt applying to college but not rly having any idea what I wanted to do w/ my life when I was 17/18. I applied to college undeclared & just took gen eds & electives for my first three semesters before declaring an English major.
now I am 22 & am finishing up my BA/applying to grad school. ![]() |

Well first I had to pick a major to apply for out of Performance, Composition/songwriting and Creative Production (Audio Engineering.) I chose Performance as I had more experience with it than the other two. I had to play 3 pieces of contrasting style. I played Melancolie by Napoleon Coste, a classical guitar piece; Si Bheag Si Mhor, an Irish harp piece (arranged for guitar); and Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson. For the composition one you had to send in 3 pieces you wrote of contrasting style, and the production one required 3 pieces you'd recorded showcasing different techniques or sounds or programs and equipment. I'm far from a virtuoso, I'd barely even call myself intermediate compared to some of the people in my course, but I showed off a few skills and that I could handle myself in a performance (even if it was an audition with two guys sitting across the room from me) and I got in. The performance bit only makes up 1/4 courses per semester though, and the remaining 3 courses include composition, production, video and audio editing and academic writing, among other aspects of the musical academia. I started off being pretty terrible with my reading and theory, with no knowledge at all of production, and a little bit of compositional skill. I've improved vastly in all aspects of musicianship in the year that I've been studying. I'd highly recommend it. Even if you're not going to get a job out of it (I probably wont) it makes you feel so much better about yourself. |

I'm 21. Fourth year of Electronic Engineering. Still have no idea what job I want to have, or how I'm going to obtain it with so much competition. I'm not sure I'm cut out to be an engineer. I'm not passionate about it and I don't have the self-discipline that my friends and coursemates have.
As far as I'm concerned, any job that won't drive me into depression and lets me have enough time/money to pursue my hobbies is good enough.

You're going to be very embarrassed by this thread in a couple of years.

All of these. So much. They're not in order of priority (for me) but this is sage advice. Quote:
Perhaps. Not everybody asks about it, but I suspect everybody these days does more than just consider it. A big part of youth is worrying about what's yet to come. Last edited by Butt Rayge : 12-04-2012 at 08:42 AM. |

I swear to god I was thinking about that just now haha Jyrgen : How do I get drugs/games or travel if I don't have the $$$ ? I could just take a random program, say the one I'm doing right now and turn it into a B.S, it's just that I already find it boring and kinda depressing, math seemed ok at first but the more I did them the uglier they got. I want some kind of middle path, just enough money to be happy, and a job good enough to keep me sane. Last edited by yoyoloto : 12-04-2012 at 02:57 PM. |
