No. Human are just primates cursed with illusions of grandeur.

Oh, btw, when someone says 'I'm Christian but I believe God is more like a divine happiness that an actual entity' you can break of the entire conversation there. They aren't Christian, in any sense - they're just talking metaphysical bollocks and labeling themselves with a 'respected' religion so that people don't laugh at them (though I contest that such a label shouldn't prevent such).

If you're going to say 'God is just human spirit' then you're just admitting that there's no reason to believe in a metaphysical God and you're just going to redefine it to mean what you like so you can still go to prayer meetings and feel warm and fuzzy.

I agree 100%, but I just got a kick out of that.

That's just something some people say to:
- manipulate others to do their bidding ("God is in me so you'd better do what I tell you") or,
- cleanse themselves of responsibility ("God made me do it, he's in me").

It still doesn't really. If he created something, he's a seperate entity from it. Unless he's like a actor/writer. In which case he is present in the thing he created, but doesn't inhabit anything but his own character.

That's never going to happen.

I believe in God. I'm Greek Orthodox, specifically. I believe God isn't "in" anyone. I've never heard anyone say that. I suppose, that because the Christian belief is that God is omnipresent, the dominating belief isn't that God is inside of you but that he's just watching you.

I'm pretty private about my religious beliefs and only chimed in because no one else was offering a christian point of view to Sam's question. There isn't any proof and hasn't ever been any proof. That's why it's referred to as "Faith."

That's simply a metaphor though, there's no metaphysical mumbo-jumbo going on. An author isn't literally alive through his/her work, it's simply that their ideas are preserved.

But there's an idea that when you create something, part of you goes into it. Not like literally. But so you write a novel. Your thoughts and feelings go into it. So your ideas are living in that book.

I don't know enough about Nietzsche to answer that.

I think everyone is their own god.

You breathe, sleep, eat, drink, earn money, spend money, and do various other things just for your sake. You do it without question, you do it with unflinching resolve, you've been doing it religiously since the day you were born, and you'll keep doing it religiously till the day you die.

For you, there is no stronger religion than you.

Unless you're an existential nihilist or some shit like that.

Yeah, I believe that we do have a 'divine spark'.

But I freely admit that I can't prove it, and I'm certainly not offended if anyone disagrees.

Pretty sure that's what Hindus believe... A piece of Brahman is in everyone, and Nirvana is basically the ultimate realization that your "soul" is identical to Brahman. (someone please correct me if I'm wrong - my knowledge of Hinduism is lacking and I don't want to misrepresent anyone's faith).

OP, you're basically a Hindu.

You just described biological processes (even money as power), which have very little to do with "being your own god". That's just... being driven by physiological needs.
