Talking Epiphone Vs ESP Ltd

I'm standing between buying a Epiphone Les Paul Standard and switching the pickups to EMG's or should I just buy a ESP Ltd EC-401FM. What is the best option, it's roughly the same price. Would be great full for an answer.

Have you played them both to know which you prefer? That will be different to what anyone else prefers.

If you like them both equally though, you might as well buy the one that already has the pickups you want.

This.

The EC-1000 will have EMGs if you want EMGs, or you can get one that comes with Duncans.

Epiphone does make several LPs that come stock with active pickups. They're cheaper than a Standard + aftermarket EMGs, or the LTD guitars with EMGs.

Bear in mind that despite first appearances, an Epi LP and a LTD EC are not all that similar. The necks are very different, the bodies are of a different thickness and have different contouring, and typically the LTDs have nicer electronics while the Epis have much nicer hardware.

But yes, a second hand EC-1000 or Gibson will blow the other LTDs and Epis out the water, and unless you're hell-bent on buying something new, there's no reason not to go for them.

I bought a Gibson LP Studio earlier this year. Although the 3 Gibsons I owned in the past (a Standard LP, a 335 and an Explorer) were 'better' if you believe the prices, I actually prefer my Studio to all 3 of them.

The updates Gibson did to the Studio aren't worth bothering with. It was just some different finishes, a new pattern of weight relief and coil split switches, which are irrelevant if you'll be putting in active pickups. The construction of the guitar, the hardware and the quality of it is no different to the regular Studio; buy a second hand regular Studio, save yourself some money.

Sure, but if you're going to put EMG's in it, you're not going to take advantage of the new features the guitar has. It's a great guitar for the money though.

Buy a used studio.
