I would ask the money back. That's just ripping off. It's the same as if you said to your friend that you can offer a free meal if he comes and eats with you. But after eating the meal you would say that the friend has to pay.

I wouldn't have paid them when they said that it's $100 instead of the $40 they promised.

They're scamming you and they had to know that they'd done it wrong by what they said when you picked it up. You couldn't be in the game for more than 5 minutes without knowing that pickups should be balanced, esp when they are from the same manufacturer and one of the most common combinations used.
