Gibson Flying Vs are back in stock at Samash for $799



I was thinking about buying a Flying V a month or so ago from MF
MF offered me the Guitar for $749 (samash had them for $799} with
hardshell case.
Just wondering besides having a hardshell case
whats the difference from a Flying V and a Faded Flying V???
I see they use the same pickups
But is it really a $1000 savings???..JT

Dammm Music123 is selling me the guitar for $707
MF wants too price match at $799 and give me $200 in rebates,,,But who know if
I will ever see the rebates and maybe I am better off paying $707 with the hardshell case..JT

The non-faded guitars are reissues of the 68's. The Faded's are essentially the same spec of guitar without the nice case or the lacquer.

I personally think the Fadeds just don't look as nice. Get the 68.

Yep I was able to get the NON faded Flying V with hardshell case for $707 (Msrp $1799}
First few sales people at Music123 did not want too give me the $707 deal,But after a few calls,
I got a lovely girl that Matched the price and also gave me the 123% discount for $707.
Yes I could have gone with MF where they would have priced matched the $799 from samash.com and also give me $200 in a gift card to use for future buying at MF.

Only thing I am saying is that many can get the Flying V for $707 with free shipping and no tax at Music123..
I was really not going to buy the guitar butttt after thinking about the price and Xmas,I felt
I need a gift...(I was looking at a Gibson Memphis for the same price butttt I am happy at what I got}........JT

the $799 version comes in white or ebony, has the lacquer finish, and comes with a case.

that's a damn good deal for a nice new V. sam ash has some stupid deals right now.

I have a gibson flying V faded in white that I pcked up new back in '08 for super cheap and the finish is super thin. like if you just play sitting down, your jean will rub the finish to bare wood, and/or your jeans colour will fade onto the guitar. like Its such a thin finish its crazy. that being said go for what ever one you like the best. because I didnt know as much about guitars and all back in 08 I didnt really know that it wasnt a great guitar (to me it was a cheap gibson that played nicely) but now after speding alot of time with it, its probably one of my most dead sounding guitars because that one in particular is more on Gibsons "dud" side of guitars. Im not blanketing all gibson Vs but just mine. anyways, its a good price, and from what I understand the only difference between the two models is finish. and the regular finish ones were selling for around 1100$ new a year and a half ago around my area

Sam Ash had a Classic Custom for like 1200 bucks. It took everything I had not to buy it. Haha.


As for the faded, non faded debate, both are nice. I think the Fadeds are ugly as sin. BUT, the neck is to die for. Its so fast, and because its not glossed, it is extremely smooth. I wish Gibson did all there necks like that personally.

I thought the Fingerboards on Most of the lower end Gibsons were make out of Granadillo??
I guess I was wrong?They are baked of Maple?
How good or bad are the Granadillo Fingerboards?.
and how long have Gibson been using Granadillo Fingerboards? JT

Subjective topic is subjective.

Granadillo is a very good material. It's used in a lot of high end woodwind instruments. It looks like rosewood but the grain is more figured and it's harder than rosewood. It used to be called 'red ebony' because of it's similar density to ebony.

Gibson uses the material on a lot guitar, like the Traditionals, Studios and a load of other models. Great material to make fingerboards from.

This whole thing with Gibson making their guitars with different species of fingerboard is given more bad rep than it's deserved. Baked Maple fingerboards kick ass and i cannot say anything bad about Granadillo.

some of the old stock that is in stores has solid rosewood fretboards and are also price dropped to the $799 mark.

even the red ones.
