Your Programming Language of Choice?
After delving into the world of different programming languages, I found myself amazed and scared at the amount of different programming languages available and their followers who swear that they're the best.
I'm currently learning C++, tried a bit of python one night and hated it but I think that's because I don't know enough programming syntax and usage in general. So, what's your favourite language and why? I'll include a poll with the ones that pop into my head.

Japanese, with my second favourite being German.
Well... Actually, my favourite is C++, but this semester I had to use Matlab which uses a bastard son of C, and next semester I'm going to learn Assembly. Next year, however, I'll be doing some C.

I started with C and then moved onto C++. I think C is a good place to start because a lot of modern programming languages are strongly inspired by it.

nah, C is a good place to start because you actually have to care about the underlying data structures.

If you aren't kidding: Not a programming language and has almost nothing in common with one. If you are kidding: haha I use Java because that's what my school teaches and Python because it's fun as shit to use. If I want to do something somewhat practical usually shell scripting is the way to go. |

I'm most familiar with Java but I'm currently learning C++ and can tell it'll become my default PL... just very frustrating at this point.

What do you fine gentlemen actually use programming for?
I had to learn it for university, but I've never had an opportunity to use it beyond coursework. I know this is a noob question but the only thing I can think of doing with it is writing flash games. Everything else is a mystery to me.

Studied Python last year, this year it's C++.
I am useless at programming, but so far I prefer C++. It just feels more useful.
