I don't know what djent is or how to pronounce it. But more importantly, I don't care.

I can see Gojira being djent, they share some similarities.

I don't really like the term djent anyway, it just comes from a term Misha from Periphery used to describe his guitar tone, and then Periphery and other prog-metal bands that were gaining popularity at the time got labeled as it.

Well I'll admit it's alright... after the first 3 songs or so. Then that constant over-pounding of that gated B-string through an over-processed and over distorted 6505 sim really starts to wear on ya (or me, at least). And it's like that with every band.

Create a Pandora station based on Periphery or Tessarract and you'll see what I mean. It just seems like a really lacking and uninspiring genre.

You're right. They have guitars, and a drummer, and a bass player, and...

...

...yeah, exactly like Djent.

True. I'm not saying Gojira is djent, just that I can see how someone could call them that.

I'd even go so far as to say when you review an album you make use of phrases such as "lacking in soul" and "immature".

It's one of those genres of music that's made for a specific mood.

I personally think Djent is a great style to add to another style of metal, that's where i really think it works well.

Take this for example.

Trust me, if I were to review albums, I'd be much worse. I'm already too over-critical of the songs that I write (which is why I never get shit done).

I have a friend who writes generic metalcore who always gets pissy whenever I give him my honest opinion on his music. It all sounds so bland and stamped out it's not funny, and it all follows what I call the modern-metal/metalcore "grid".
