That's ironic, since people in your stance are actually the "brainwashed" ones. Because of the historic use of higher frame rates in hand-held cam-corders and soap operas, it is associated with low quality. It is in fact, higher quality. Your brain just has negative associations because 60 FPS is something you previously only encountered with bad things. |

The amount of space that is on a disc allows for a lower compression rate so that the picture and audio quality is better. To your average Joe this means nothing, but for someone who is a film buff or an audiophile perhaps(this is a guitar website and we are all tone freaks after all) its really the best way to experience a film. For anyone else its just a good way to watch a movie.

I got my HDMI cable from BestBuy, it was like $200 but it's got built in virus protection so I figured it was worth it. |

Blu-Ray is useless technology based on outdated physical media. Skip it and go straight for HD streaming from the computer.

To everyone saying that they think Blu Ray looks like shit, was everything set up properly? My dad bought a Blu Ray player recently, and the damn thing only came with composite cables. (srsly) He was pretty pissed about how crappy it looked until I explained to him why.

Didn't read thread; guessing TS has never watched anything in high definition before.

I have, and I realize that it's "better", but I was just wondering if it was good enough to justify the price jump. Although now apparently that price jump isn't so big as it used to be.

For a time I worked as a third party sales rep at Best Buy. Convinced poor bastards to buy those $80 Monster HDMI cables lulz.

Ah, I've never used a TV for that sort of stuff, so I never had a price jump. |

Not everyone has the luxury of internet fast enough - or with enough data to download hi def movies. Blu-ray certainly has a place.
Also, what are thoughts on this: http://www.abc.net.au/science/artic.../05/3647276.htm Namely relating to the ending section where it refers to higher frame rates in film

That has nothing to do with the video quality itself. That has to do with the way some HDTVs handle frame rates, known as motion interpolation, sometimes branded as Auto Motion Plus, really only intended for sports viewing. This can be turned off to render those frames the traditional way (and look as you're used to). lol @ all the misconception over AMP and frame rates ITT.

I think people are confusing how things are filmed versus how HD looks. Things that weren't filmed in HD might look weird. Crappy, fake CGI is just going to look crappier and faker. It's one thing to have a preference of one thing over another, no one can take that away from you. It's something completely different when you've deluded yourself into thinking something objectively better is bad or overrated just because you don't like it and lots of other people do.

Although it's kind of sad that frame rates over 30 fps in movies look "fake" to people now. |
