You can turn off that motion blurring thing. What it does is basically insert frames that aren't there. I'd love me an HDTV and a high quality blu ray player. Shit don't even compare.

The Soap Opera thing you are talking about is from motion interpolation, a feature in the television that doubles the framerate and approximates between the previous and next frame to give a smoother look. Most movies are still shot in 24 frames per second.

I'm a bit of a wary one when it comes to new technology, but the definition is a lot better. I watched a program showing that a 50 quid blu ray player is no different in quality than a £200 one. I buy blu rays off play.com for like £6 too.

I don't know whether you're implying that I should be pirating or that I should be paying for downloaded movies, but I apologizes for wanting to pay for as many movies as I can financially justify and refusing to pay for a product that I can't hold in my hands.

A mixture of reactions followed... ![]() ![]() ![]()

It's really massively different to that. There was a lot more different between DVDs and VHS than there is between Blu Ray and DVD. I think it's probably the reason Blu Ray hasn't picked up as much as DVDs did over VHS. Blu Ray is better quality picture (and larger storage), but unless you're playing games storage makes very little difference (or perhaps series I guess) and unless you have a HDTV the quality won't make a difference anyway. There is a step up in quality as far as I'm aware, but not to the degree there is between VHS and DVD, nor is DVD in itself really very bad quality whereas VHS can be. DVD is already has a pretty clear picture and sound, and unless you're an audio/video-phile, I don't think people value the step up in quality as much as they did with DVD, especially when it costs more. The price is only now coming down to similar levels. What I mean to say is, yeah blu-ray has better picture quality etc, but not really to the degree anyone gives a shit, especially when DVD is more than adequate for most anyway. EDIT: oh and of course DVD was a lot more practical as a medium compared to VHS, whereas blu-ray discs themselves are pretty much identical to DVD in that regard. ![]() Okay so that shows you the difference in resolution. The top film cameras have 8K CMOS sensors in the optical head block.

^They'll come down in price but sigh why why why why. HD is fine right now. It looks really goddamn good already. Why do they want to bump up to 4K so fast? That takes a lot more storage capacity and bandwidth, meaning another round of equipment upgrades. Assholes.

I would take a guess that HD is saturated, who do you know who doesnt have an HD tv anymore 720 or 1080? Spec bump to get some interest in buying new tvs is my guess.

Yep, but that's everything nowadays isnt it.
Tech you see it all the time, especially with apple. Nothing is truly made to last anymore, or features are purposefully left out and saved for next generation, its a loss of profits if people don't continue to buy products. Every phone and iPod I've owned, has died at about 24-30 months. My nano is two years at Christmas, and I'm not a fan of the new nano, I really hope it doesnt fall into that trend.

Bingo. Same reason Apple are drip feeding new features into their range of products, to give you a reason to buy a new one every 18months. It's working, so the TV manufacturers want to do the same. The first films that are 4K will be out next year. So you can hopefully (for me) see 4k becoming the standard in the future. HDTV has only taken off in the Western world in the last decade. I personally didn't have one until 2006. I can well imagine picking up an 4KTV in 2016. edit - ^^ Snap. It's all technology companies doing this though. It basically follows Moores Law.

Buy a $50 Nokia. I've had mine for about 4 years and never had a problems with it. I've dropped it accidentally countless times and thrown it intentionally on several occasions (to see if it would break/prove to somebody it wouldn't break,) and it's just got a few scratches. Works just the same as it did when I bought it. You can still buy the same model brand new, I'm fairly sure. Most of my friends have iPhones or Galaxys and they drop them and break them or treat them carefully for a year and they inexplicably die, yet my Nokia lives on. Before it I had a $100 Motorolla that I dropped heaps and it never broke. Eventually the keys wore out, otherwise I'd still have it. Before that one I had a $200 Sony Ericsson. I dropped that all the time and it never broke and the only reason I bought the Motorolla was because the keys wore out. Before that I had a Nokia 3315. It got stolen. I know it still works though. 3315's never die. I dunno what point I was trying to make. Not every brand uses planned obsolescence as their main business model? Nokia makes great phones? Don't buy Apple products? Any of those suit me fine. Last edited by Butt Rayge : 12-07-2012 at 11:09 AM. |
