(Recommend me an) Overdrive

2 part thread. How do I tweak my current overdrive, a Bad Monkey, to get a "good" sound? Any suggestions? Bass higher than treble? dime level, zero gain?, etc.

2nd part: Should I look for a new overdrive pedal? Will list bands/sounds I like, etc., if need be.

Well, if you want a new overdrive, I highly suggest you hit up Tim from ToyroomFX on here and talk to him. I told him everything I needed and for a surprisingly cheap price, he built me by far, the best overdrive Ive used.

I told him I needed something transparent, with balls, and would only beef up the character of my amp. Thats exactly what I got. Im sure if you told him your requirements he would build you something awesome.

Also, I got a bad ass Super Mario Mushroom screenprinted on it. its my power up pedal. haha

I prefer the boss sd-1 and bd-2 over the bad monkey. A Toyroom pedal would be a good way to go too, I plan on hitting that guy up (greeny) after the holidays myself.

We need to know what you want to do with it. Are you looking for a standalone pedal to get dirt from, or are you looking for something to boost your amp's distortion with?

I just bought a JHS Superbolt but it hasn't come in yet, it looks like it's very versatile and hopefully gonna be what I wanted. I've also heard really good things about the Walrus Audio Voyager, if I don't like the Superbolt (which is unlikely), I'll be getting the Voyager.

cmat mods signa drive is fairly versatile. besides its overall tone, it has 3 difference gain settings and it kinda changes a lot about how the pedal plays. its almost like a high output tubescreamer, a cleaner boost, and a low gain OD all in one.

fairly happy. i generally use 1 setting all the time, but i can see myself always having this thing.
