What kind of type of playing is this?
Title. It's when you're playing melody and rhythm at the same time.
Example? Search Sungha Jung on youtube. And where do I learn this type of stuff haha.

I do not believe that certain kind of playing have some special name to it. I would just say playing percussion, chords and melody at the same time. Since this is done in many different styles of music like Sungha Jung and Andy mckee do it acoustic while players like Jody fisher does it in jazz (minus the percussion though).
Learn from the greats, i am talking about people like Andy Mckee, Don ross, Antoine Dufor, Trace Bundy and Erik Mongrain. Get a hold of their tunes and slow them down and pick out what they are doing. My opinion is to be truly great at a style you have to really "learn how it sounds", if you get what i mean. So i favor taking out stuff by ear over tabs anyway.

TS: You could call it chord-melody but if you use that term to refer to someone like Sungha Jung people will thing you mean more a more jazz style than what he does. I think most people just call it 'modern acoustic' if you're referring to that rhythmic, groovy melody/chord stuff.

Awesome guys thanks, whatever it is, I'm gonna be trying to teach myself. Say, take a song and use chords and try to make a melody, so I'll have to figure it out.

Check out the playing of Chet Atkins and Merle Travis. Though both are often classified as "country" artists, they were both masterful fingerstyle players who handled all sorts of different music.
Chord-melody in a jazz context is harmonizing each note (or almost each note) in the melody with an appropriate chord, and also incorporating a nice, moving bass line to go with it. A very high level of playing ability and harmonic knowledge is required. |

Well I'm out of luck haha, only been playing for 2 years. Just started fingerpicking and I just though it was playing the melody while finger picking the main chords of the song. Shows you how experienced I am haha. And I haven't bothered learning much music theory besides what I learned from playing the piano for 2 years (with an instructor, unlike guitar).
At least I now have something to motivate me beacuse I've been becoming lazy because I don't know what to learn.
