Stainless Steel strings to...

brighten up my amp tone??? I had a shop owner tell me today that changing the speaker in my open back VHT Special 6 combo would not change the brightness/darkness of the amps tone. The guy has owned a shop for about 30 years. So i dont know.. is he right or wrong. Somebody chime in please.

I'm going to give you a piece of advice that will take you a long way.... Don't listen to old music shop owners.

Of course this isn't always true, but a lot of the time those old geezers don't have a clue what they're talking about. Of course a speaker change can help brighten/darken your amps tone. That's why manufacturers normally some kind of EQ chart on their site for reference.

Speakers make a big difference. On the other hand, it would be foolish not to try a $5 set of strings first.

+1 speakers are probably third most important thing in a rig, amp makes most of your tone, a comfortable guitar to play, and a good sounding speaker to complement.

different speakers can have huge differences. compare a greenback to a K100. quite a bit a difference.
