Trying to amplifiy the relicing on my guitar
So i have this nice little telecaster, black finish. And it is starting to show marks... like the thing you see on a reliced guitar. I only have it for a year but i play like 10 hours a day so i guess it is not weird. But right now the relicing looks kinda gay so i want to make the marks a bit bigger. Now i tried to scratch with my stone pick, but that would only erase some of the finish and leave scratch marks. So what can i do to not get scratchmarks and erase some more of the finish.

Sand the finish? But what do you mean that the relicing looks gay? Is it happy-looking? With a smile on its face?

Just play more, I personally never understood the point of relicing, its not so much the look as the story imo. Its like hey you see this ding, got that when I knocked the bassist off the stage back in 83... that type stuff, just play the age into it don't cheat

Yes, the story is cool, but there are other factors to consider. For one, poly finished guitars don't really relic on their own, they just get beat to shit. I mean, maybe if you tour with that guitar for 40 years or something, but a bedroom player isn't going to see any classic relic'ing, they will just see some nasty chips and dings. Basically, his guitar might get beat up over time, but it won't develop the coveted "relic" look unless he does it on purpose. TS, this might give you some ideas: |

Takes patience and lots of time....in average i spend around 6 to 12 months aging my guitars.... this 55' reissue gold top Les Paul is my latest, still under development, started in January and probably be done by the 30th this month....

It bugs me that he didn't do anything to the areas around the volume/tone knobs.

Ok, first off, Gibson Les Pauls have a nitro finish, which is far easier to relic. Secondly, posting pics is pretty much useless. Post a video of how to relic a poly finished guitar, or stfu. |

And you seem to have a reading comprehension problem. I looked at your mediocre channel, you don't have a single video for relic'ing a poly finish. I'm guessing that you don't even know what a poly finish is, judging by your responses. And I have nothing to learn from your channel. |
