Hey guys i'm new to this forum.
I've been playing my acoustic guitar/semi-electric for some months now and i was thinking of switch to electric now. I already have a Roland 20Watts AMP & Zoom G1xn sound processor. I have a tight budget of 200$. And i've narrowed down my search & options to 2 guitars. 1. Fender Squier Bullet Strat HSS - 200$ or Affinity Strat HSS - 230$ 2. Epiphone Les Paul Special II - 230$ Music which i like to play is basically Nirvana, Guns & Roses, Led Zeppelin & Metallica. I've read LP special II is versatile & Strat with Humbucker is also kinda same. I'm not much into Metal... I've played my friend's Ibanez GRG170DX but i didn't like it that much. Also tried Cort X5 which sounded ok. Although i know in the 200$ i won't be getting a decent sounding guitar. But based on the music i would like to play which guitar would you recommend? Thanks in Advance. ![]() |

Whydon't you want to buy used? You'd get a better guitar for the same money that way. But out of those I'd go with the Affinity Strat.

Don't get the Bullet. It is one of the lowest of low end. Google "Squier Bullet sucks" and you will see what I mean.

The epiphone special ii was my first guitar. Ever since I first had it I've always had electronic problems with my pickups.
Probably not a common thing just bad luck but the sunburst is brutally ugly fake too. Also the tuners are the worst that guitar can not stay in tune to save its life and the tone is terrible. If it had to be those 3 I would go affinity it's made of alder which is relatively light and what higher end fenders are made of as well although I think the front and back has some sort of crap wood to cut down on cost. If I was you I'd probably go for this squire here http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guit...c-guitar/h78850 Pick ups are probably gonna be a lot better in this one.

Don't buy a cheap fender. I have a starcaster (even more of a budget guitar than a bullet strat) and it's junk. It feels cheap, can't handle any gain/overdrive at all, sounds mediocre and doesn't stay in tune.
If you think there's any chance at all you'll stick with guitar, you should spend just a bit more and get a MIM fender if you like fender, or look at other value options, like Agile, LTD etc. If you must buy new, I recommend Agile to you, if only because they seem to have a good record with customer service and they have a lot of guitars with high-quality features at a low price. |

I had a good experience with my Special II. I mean it was bought from the Gibson shop in Nashville, but that means nothing. It was a good guitar. I have it today. I dont play it at all anymore. But it got the job done

I would strongly advise against the LP special II.
It was my first electric and I felt the need to upgrade only 3 months after I got it. Playability was awfull (though that might have been due to the set up), the bridge was sharp which means strings would break there, and the pick ups were awfully muddy. Not to mention that this guitar looks worst in real life than on photo because it is so flat, and really obvious that there's a veneer... I don't have experience with the two others. However, I would recommend for that budget, if you have a friend or know somebody who plays guitar, you go buy a second hand guitar with him to a guitar shop. That's seems your best option for the money.

If you're thinking LTD, then I recommend as high-quality an LTD as your budget will allow, with the features that you want in a guitar. Check out the LTD reviews section on UG for a list of models. If you were able to shop used, I'd suggest a deluxe model. The general consensus is you should go above the 200 series to get a nice guitar. If $200 is your budget and you can't buy used, you may not be able to buy an LTD that's really worth the cash, but you could try some models within that range and see if you like them.

Stay away from the cheaper Epis including the LP100, the tuners are crap and will drive you @*&#$! crazy. If your still thinking around $200 check out a yamaha pacifica.

The LP100 is just as bad as the Special. If anything it's worse because it costs more.
Definitely go for the Affinity HSS out of what you've presented. If you can buy online, get one of these. http://www.rondomusic.com/al2000black.html They come in a ton of other finishes too, just look around. An AL-2000 will absolutely blow away anything else you can buy new for $250 or less.
