A small verson of Fender HR Deville?
Hey y'all,
I really love my Fender Hot Rod Deville, but I live in a student flat so I'm looking for a smaller amp. Even the Blues Jr is too big. I was looking at the Superchamp X2 or XD etc... Would they be good enough ? Can they give similar tones? I want tube, not solidstate. And no pods to plug earphones in. I can play at reasonable volume in my flat! Thanks! |

those champs are hybrids.
not that it is a bad thing, i think they sound very good. can they hit a similar tone? in my opinion yes they can. what would be better is an old blackface or silverface champ made before 1979. they come up for sale all the time and can be had for around $300. they have better tone than the hrd imo. |

Exactly what i came in to post. The champs might be too loud to crank in a dorm or apartment, but mine sounds great at low levels. Just keep in mind the champs have no effects so apart from cranking it youll need a distortion pedal or reverb if you use those.

Thanks guys but I just want something on the market that I can go and get now. I don't have time to be looking for pre1979 amps... I heared the XD is discontinued? Was it better than the X2?

Whats your price range? Since you have a HRD im sure you can afford better than the hybrid fenders

wat How is that amp too big? It'll literally fit under a bed when you aren't using it. Or under a desk or in a closet. I mean, a 1x12 isn't THAT much bigger than a 1x8 or 1x10 when it comes to space.

too big is too big. if you want new and smaller, excelsior or superchamp or even a vibrochamp XD. sam ash has vibro champ XD amps for $149, still in stock. i was there recently. if your local store is out of them, have them transfer one from another store. |

pre 1979 fenders pop up all of the time dirt cheap. browse CL, different forums classifieds (here, R-T, HC, TGP), or even ebay. way better than a blues junior. they are not hard to find.

If that amp is too large, mpst amps will be. The foot print of it won't be too much bigger than most amps. Especially if he's meaning a blues junior is too large. As far as the volume knob, I own a hot rod and can easily get it quieter than the sound of the strings. It's definitely touchy, but it doesn't go from silent to super loud.

Because I don't really care? Hahaha. I run mine around 4 on the volume knob 99% of the time. I have it set for band practice and I just leave it there. When we start playing shows I may have to turn it slightly up or down at the venue, but it's at a good volume where it is for now.

I figured it would be either apathy or laziness - apathy it is.
