Help me find a camera.

So I'm thinking of getting somebody a camera as a gift for the holidays, but I'm not that up to date on cameras at the moment, so I was wondering what you guys would recommend.
I'm not looking for anything "professional" by any means, but something that takes fairly good/great pictures/video for scenery/everyday use. I'm also looking at a budget of around $200-$300.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you can resuscitate Kensai from his firey grave he would probably be able to help you. We also have a photography thread I think but that just may be for hipsters with instagram, I dunno.

I bought a Canon Powershot SX260 on black friday, its around $200. I really like it, and the pictures are good quality. It has a nice zooming lens on it. I'd recommend it.

Photo thread will help, I'm thinking about getting a gopro 3. they do good vid and photo, the 3 +(most expensive one) does both at once. Lens is super wide though and don't think it adjusts

Hmm, ok. Yeah I tried the photo thread a few days ago, but had no luck. It seems quite dead atm.

Less than a year now, I can't remember when I got it.
