Rockerverb 50 for me?
So i am highly considering buying myself one of these amps.
I like to play a variety of styles, to give you guys an idea: Hendrix, Jack White, Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Weezer, SRV, AC/DC, Tool, APC, Soundgarden to name a few. I dont play anything particularly heavy, I was looking for an amp i can gig with since i am forming a band with friends to have a bit of fun. Do you guys think this amp is the right fit? The local GC doesnt have it on hand sadly and neither does the Sam Ash so im only going by YT vids. If you guys think theres a better choice heres the rest of the info: My budget is ~2k including Cab, I dont mind if its a combo but if its is a combo id prefer a 2x12. Prefer used. I'd like an FX loop, reverb and 2 channels min. |

I would rather have a Marshall DSL for that stuff. It'd sound much more authentic.
But if you want a bassier, darker tone then the Rockerverb would be excellent.

I was originally a Bass player for many years so i have a tendency to like those kind of tones if you understand where i am coming from. If i had to make one clarification, the amp wont be used to play covers of those bands but rather for original stuff im working on. However, my what i choose to make at any given time changes drastically.
My friends say i have my "weeks" where i harp a specific sound then the next i go for another. So versatility is the name of the game in this lol |

I personally thought the rockerberb was amazing at balls out gain but pretty meh for everything else. Apparently they have helped the clean channel and reverb out on the new mk2. but even the gain channel didn't sound so crash hot at lower gain setting. For high gain this is definately one of my favourite amps.

Yes it uses the EL-34s and has a better clean channel and transparent fx loop

311, the 100 MKII comes stock with EL34s but it'll take 6L6s. I suspect KT77s will work fine, too. Remnest, have you checked out the Thunderverb 200? Useful for Bass, too. ![]() ![]()

Pretty versatile since the Clean is very useable while the low end is pretty massive. I recycled it only because I got a better Bass amp and a bunch of brootz amps.

I use a JCM DSL 100 and play a shit ton of those bands music and I can nail some great tones out of it.
That being Said, I love the distinct british sound an Orange has. And would love to own one. should still nail those tones but in a darker way |

the opposite of dark here is bright.
i can see a bright amp being good for AC/DC here is his list again... Hendrix, Jack White, Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Weezer, SRV, AC/DC, Tool, APC, Soundgarden Pumpkins, Tool, Soundgarden, Hendrix don't strike me as being bright. Well, maybe Tool has a bright guitar tone. WTFIDKBBQ ![]()

there were several on your craigslist - I'd look at one of the hand wired ones if you go that route

I threw the Thunderverb just in case you planned to switch between guitar and bass.
![]() BTW, was your budget for a used Rockerverb 50? You can also buy a nice Marshall or Laney VH100R or QuickRod for that scratch.

As far as i know it would have to be used since they run well over 2k new, not to mention quality cabs aint cheap. As far as ive been able to see the MKII has a rather nice clean channel, then again im not one to trust YT vids THAT much, anyone got 1st hand experience? Ive looked into some of the fender amps which have epic cleans but i always find their OD to be lacking and they dont lend themselves well to anything high gain or very modern, though i may be wrong since ive only tried the twinreverb and the bassman. |

i only really find an AC30 a little bright when the volume is low. turn that baby up and it thickens up like a beast.
If you can get a handwired for a good price and are looking to turn up the volume then it is definately worth a look. The only thing you will propbably have trouble with is Tool. The rockerverb would be better for that but AC30 and a pedalboard for basically everything else.

Hmmm, the HW version does seem like a good choice. Like you said, xcept for the Tool or APC it would lend itself well for most of everything else......
