Slender

Search barred, found nothing, so...
I played Slender for my first time today. I honestly thought beforehand that it was probably really hyped up and not really that great; but I found it to be truly horrifying. Played it full experience, lights off, volume all the way up. Any of you guys have interesting stories about playing it?

I played it once, and then forced my friend to play it.

Overall I think it is a bit over-hyped, but it did get me a few times.

Nah bro. You're still going into it knowing that it isn't real. Nothing can leave your laptop screen and get you. It's incredible.

I'll agree that they still aren't truly scary. Just more apt and able to be than movies or text.

A friend of mine used to get freaked out over playing Doom at night. It never really affected me, but it's whatevs.

I don't usually spook from text or movies either. Am I a schizoid?

It's not real fear though, it's the anticipation of being startled.
That mixed with the actual shock.

I guess I scare easy.
It did make for a good time with friends, though, I found. Especially if you've got girls there that are scared easily.

I honestly find the game scary in a fun way. I'll admit it's not as good as people think, and half the time it's not scary at all (depends on how you lose).

I find the whole myth and hype to be annoying though. When I first played it I had never heard of it and I thought it was just a guy chasing you through the woods. It was better that way. And now it's become an 'IRL meme' which makes it even more annoying.

Edit: I'm easily startled by the way.

Excruciatingly overhyped.
Played it. Found it a bit funny (oh hey there Slender, sup? How's it going?), and that was it.

Don't "WE GOT OURSELVES A BADASS HERE LOL" me because it's not about that. It just wasn't scary for me.
There are some mods that are a bit more thrilling, where the music that grows with each page is more scary, so I'm sure in due time something truly terrifying will come out.

That's not the point, it's the atmosphere and the tension that's meant to "scare" you. Scary's not really the right word to describe it. Oh and loud noises out of nowhere don't startle you? I call bullshit on that one if that's the case.

Either way, it's a pretty shit game. I daren't try Amnesia though. I'd poo everywhere.

Sorry, didn't see your edit before. No, I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with you--I'm typically the same way.

But for me there is a nice line that divides "shock factor" with "fear", and tbh, only one film has crossed that line for me, and it was The Exorcist. And that's probably because I was like 7 when I watched it lol.

No book has ever scared me, outside of a reality context. Like if it's talking about real world issues and I'm like "Shit man, that's scary", that's different from "Whoa! It came out of nowhere. Except it didn't, because this is a book." Idk.

Long story short, I just think that games provide the best method of scaring someone, opposed to other types of media. In a game, "you" are actually there when the event happens. Not your physical self, but some avatar controlled by it, generally.

I hadn't really heard anyone say that it was good or scary, I just knew it was fairly popular, so I guess I went in without any expectations.

I thought slender man was scary, then I played Amnesia.

The game play was kinda lame and too puzzly, but I quit playing after I encountered the first monster.

I want to try this game! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LSD_(video_game)
