Laney AOR amps are great and can be found cheap used.
+1 to the Peavey Windsor also, I just bought the Windsor Studio 1x12 combo and it has a great Marshally tone to it and it only cost me $149.99 used at GC (in the USA)

Okay, good point, soon enough I may get a job. But at the moment I can't. I have exams to work towards so I'm skint. Tbh I'll probably just stick with my VOX for now.

I don't know how old you are, your living conditions, or the availability of music gear over there but I can tell you what I did myself. I have a Peavey Valveking (100 watt all tube head) Marshall 4x12, Crate 4x12, BOSS ME-70, Dunlop crybaby not to mention the various cords/tuners/picks and guitars bought and sold over the years. Everything I mentioned so far I spent less than 1100.00$ US. Buy used, always used the Valveking at the time listed for 600$ but Guitar Center put it on clearence for 300$ because they couldn't sell it in store. Deals don't come along every day but you have to be proactive in looking for them. I'm a big thrash fan myself (my nick name is Johnny Thrash) and more likely than not if you have a good tube amp you don't even need a distortion pedal. The guitars I use are usually the cheapest companies make but a solid amp will contribute to your tone more than a guitar will more often than not. I will note that over the years I've found that you don't want to just automatically scoop all your mids out. Don't be afraid to turn up high mids a little. If money is a serious hurdle, analyze things in your life that are important. I've sold items from my other hobbies to fund gear purchases. Or sell an older piece of gear if the new item will make the old superfluous.

Blue Voodoo is cheap as well. Not sure on prices in the EU if you can even get them
The Windsor is great for that 800 tone.

For that price?
Crate Blue Voodoo Windsor 30 Jet City 20 or 22 Laney AOR Also worth looking into is the Suhr Riot pedal. It's not the same as using an amp, but it kicks MASSIVE ass.

Don't get the metal muff its terribad, if your dead set on a dirt pedal you should look at the joyo pedals I forget which ones are the marshal in a box but um yeah. If you get really lucky you might be able to find a JVM combo in your range used, although the valveking or winsor combo is more realistic. Edit forgot about the blue voodoo

Thanks guys, I've kept an eye out for a Windsor / Valveking, and I'm saving a bit further as I've seen these go used for £200.

Thanks for the advice, I've actually been looking around for the Peaveys, and unfortunately there aren't any JVMs in the range used. 200th post!

The Crate Blue Voodoo is a great amp if you get one made before 97, if you want an amazing thrash amp that not a lot of people play or seem to know about find a Crate Stealth. It's Crate's first tube amp and was designed by Lee Jackson who was famous for hot rodding Marshall 800s! So basically you get the 800 sound at a Crate price. I own a head and a combo and they are my secret weapon to my sound. Don't let the people who dog Crate fool you, they make some amazing products!

If you need a bit "more" out of the amp, a Digitech Bad Monkey will do basically what a Tubescreamer will, but for about a quarter of the price!

Well, I'm quite late to this thread. I'll try to contribute to the pedal side of things, now that you have an amp.
http://www.thomann.de/ie/harley_ben..._distortion.htm is the Joyo "marshall-in-a-box" losing battle was talking about in post #28. I have one, it's good, but it will probably be useless to you. http://www.thomann.de/ie/harley_ben...e_overdrive.htm is a tubescreamer clone (as far as I know). I can't say what it sounds like but apparently it's good. http://www.thomann.de/ie/digitech_bad_monkey.htm is another tubescreamer type pedal. I have one of these and it's quite good, also has the bonus of being more usable if you play bass, since you can boost the lows. Either of the tubescreamers would go well with your amp, and you might be able to find them for cheaper in a local music shop (since you won't have to pay shipping). |

I don't think you will be as satisfied with a Peavey as you will with any other amp listed, but best of luck to you with it.

Got it, but can't make an NAD thread since I don't have a cab (saving for one) and it's against the rules to make such a thread without an extensive review or a video which I can't make as I haven't heard it!
