I wasn't aware of this...seems that there are far more weighty issues going on in America at the moment. This is nice though. Good story.

To be fair, it really doesn't matter whether you credit an altruistic act to the person who carried out the act or a god that may have inspired them to carry out the act. All that really matters is that the act is carried out.

Remember, the officer in question wishes to remain anonymous, so it's quite obvious that he certainly doesn't care about getting credit for his altruistic act.

I think that's nice and all but I don't really see why this is news. It's only $100 ('only' relative to the enormous amounts of money that get donated to charity daily), minus the amount he got fined for. Maybe it's newsworthy because it was a texas cop and he didn't shoot anyone?

Maybe the story being on the news will inspire other people to do similarly nice acts?

If I helped someone out and they said it "restored their faith in God," I wouldn't get pissed off and think that meant they were taking the credit away from me.

Leave it to the pit to take a police officer offering a generous and kind gesture and turn it into an affront to atheism.

Not impressed.

This is a nice story.

Just that all the feels went when I read the comments here and saw that the pit almost managed to turn it into an Atheism vs Christianity debate.

Really, the f*ck is wrong with you guys!?

It's not like he said "God's the one who gave me that $100." I mean, all he said was that it basically secured his faith...That's not giving God all the credit. He said right before it "He helped me out when I needed it and I appreciate that. I'll never forget that man." You guys get riled up about the silliest things.

All that's missing from this r/atheism thread is some Neil Degrasse Tyson quotes.

I learned a valuable lesson today. Atheistic zealots can be just as hypocritical as religious zealots.

Guess you can't trust anyone anymore. Thanks, Pit.
