Which volume pots should I get?

I've been using Alpha B500Ks for as long as I've been buying pots. But they don't have a proper taper whatsoever. It's pretty much 0 on the knob is 0 volume, and then 1 on the knob is like 8 volume. If I wanted that I'd just get an on/off switch, haha.

What pots have a good, very consistent taper?

I think the Alpha A500s are the audio taper, which is probably what you want. If you want a different brand, try CTS. But whatever you do, get the audio/logarithmic taper if you aren't currently satisfied with a linear taper.

I'll try that out.

When I first looked into buying pots however long ago, I either read or was told to use a B500 for the volume and A500 for the tone. Just been doing that ever since.

Alphas are cheap enough though, I'll try some As for my volumes. Thanks.

The A and B thing is switched around for Alpha compared to CGE and CTS pots; also, these terms are switched around again for certain countries. So it usually pays to ignore the A and B designations; buy from somewhere where they simply label them as linear or logarithmic.
You might want to try Bourns pots (imperial) or JS pots (metric). They both have slightly smoother action than CTS/Alpha, and their tapers seem more consistent, in my experience (though I always use linear pots for everything, I'm only assuming the logarithmic pots are the same deal).

Do you know which is which offhand for JS by any chance? I can't find any sites that sell them besides eBay.
