Katzenjammer, Listener, Three Trapped Tigers and Warpaint. They're too good to stay unknown, and frankly they deserve all our damn money.

They're like one of the biggest bands in their home country though.

i agree with you cause it's true. i just think something is different about them. they don't strike me as the typical punk rock band, i think they're more accessible and can appeal to many circles outside of punk.

on the impossible past is probably my favourite album of 2012

i think trioscapes might get big for a jazz metal band. i hear theyre doing well.

but im not aware of many unpopular bands, i just dont go looking for them. and the ones i do like arent about to get popular anytime soon.

I'm sure non-hipster white people will start listening to Chief Keef soon.

Aren't they like Pop Etc now? They've definitely declined...

I think many of you are misunderstanding the title. Popular. Metal isn't popular, nor has it been since the 80s.

By your narrow definition of popular (as in, "Everyone likes it"), neither is Indie, Rock, Jazz, etc. Basically, anything but the latest rap and pop music isn't popular.

The fact is, there's certainly a large market for Metal. There's also a large market for India, Rock, Jazz, etc. Just because a band isn't making millions selling their top hit and becoming set for the rest of their lives doesn't mean that there's no market for that band.

Oh, and for the record, Metal is more popular in continental Europe than the US or the UK. So, stop making generalizations; generalizations are bad.

sleepsmakeswaves are starting to get pretty popular in the post-rock/prog-rock scene, and for good reason, they're wicked. Local band called Dead Owls are also starting to get some massive popularity.
