NGD! This thing is a Bastard....
Literally. I just got this yesterday:
It's a Moser Bastard V! I got this yesterday used through a Craigslist deal. I got this and the Seymour Duncan JB in the Bridge position of it with a fitted harshell case for basically $500. Originally, the V had an EMG HZ H4 in it. I tried it with that first, but I wasn't really sure that I liked it. There were things I liked and things I didn't like. It seemed fizzy sometimes, muddy sometimes, thin sometimes, but overall, the whole time it just felt like it was just lacking something. To be fair, the strings that came on it were very dead, although I hit them with some cleaner before I played it. I've heard that HZ pups sound their best at high-volumes, and I was playing through my practice rig, which is a headphone setup, so I'll probably give them another chance sometime. After the initial tryout, I installed Schaller Straplocks (in the pics), swapped the HZ for the JB, put new strings on it in the gauge that I prefer (Power Slinky's, so 11-48) cleaned the guitar up, including the fretboard, did some routine maintenance, and then set up the action, pickup height and intonated it. It. Sounds. Fantastic. Not to mention, it plays like a dream. I couldn't be happier, and I'm excited to gig with it this Sunday, not to mention surprise my bandmates with it, since I haven't breathed a word to them yet. ![]() The neck is thick like I like them, but not as thick as my Epi Les Paul, which is actually nice. The wraparound tailpiece is something new for me, but I don't really mind it too much so far. It makes palm mutes kinda weird to do, since I don't have the strings coming off of the back to rest my hand on in addition to the saddles and strings on the pickup side of the bridge, but I'll get used to it. I'll probably be putting Graph Tech saddles on it in the near future, as I really like those. It's got a bone nut, so I'm set there. The tuners are Grovers, which I love. The Pots are full-sized 500k pots, and have no issues, and the switch is pretty beefy as well. It's wired so that the middle position on the switch will still have output even if one pickup is turned completely off in terms of the volume pots, which is prettty awesome to play with. I like it more than the traditional wiring that you see in 2 volume guitars for blending the two pups. The bridge pup is a Seymour Duncan JB, as stated above, but the Neck pup has me confused. The guy said he was pretty sure it was a Dimarzio of some sort, but the bottom of the pup has no branding from Dimarzio on it. It just has an "F" on it. The pole pieces are all hex nuts, which is something seen on many Dimarzio pups, but I can't identify it so far. I like it, but unless I can figure out what it is, I'll probably replace it with a Liquifire down the line. It'll work fine for now, though. There are no nicks, chips, dents, or scratches beyond pick swirling and very minor surface scratches that every guitar has. The control cavity seems to be well-shielded. It's got a THICK coating of the spray-on stuff, and the plastic piece is covered with the shielding tape stuff. Overall, I'm very pleased. I wish it would have come with a Kahler or OFR, but for the price I paid, I'm not going to complain about getting pretty much everything else I could ask for Now I just need to name it... ![]()

Thanks guys!
It's pretty extreme, that's for sure. I like it, though, and I've got nothing but compliments on it from metal heads to classic blues guys. Even when people aren't into the extreme look, they always say they have to admit, it certainly is nice, not to mention it definitely has a flair and an eye-catching look. The reason it's taken so long for me to reply is that I have been out of town all weekend at a gig! I played this as my main gutiar for it (my band was headlining) and surprised my band with it, and they all loved it. A bunch of people at the show that weren't even our fans complimented me on it. It's definitely pretty unique from what I've seen of guitars. I've never heard of Evile. I hadn't even heard of or seen the guitars of Neal Moser until this one. I mean, I knew about the Bich, Virgin, etc. from BC Rich, but I didn't know he designed them. So far, I'm nothing but pure happy about this guitar. Being Neck-Thru, it's got very little neck-to-bodyy hump going on. It's super comfortable and makes upper-fret access an absolute breeze. The 24 fret range is nice, too. It's useful to be able to hit that last octave. This thing is definitely an eye-catcher, the quality is outstanding, it plays like a dream, and it's got everything you could want in terms of hardware. The single problem I've had is that I'm used to switching pickups in my Les Paul, but this one's pup toggle switch is down by the knobs, which is weird for me, but I'll get used to it ![]()

I don't like the Bastard V though. I think it's ugly, but HNGD! You like it, that's all that matters
