$1400 to blow on a halfstack

alright guys. ive got 1400. I was thinking used 5150/6505/6505+ with a used mesa 4x12, or possibly a new 2x12 (whichever is easier to find)

i'm pretty sure, but i figured i'd come here to see any other suggestions before i pull the trigger

I like to play:
The Black Dahlia Murder
All Shall Perish
Through the Eyes of the Dead
Warbringer
Exodus
Parkway Drive
Job for a cowboy

mostly a metal guy. cleans are not really a factor here.

guitar: 1997 Ibanez RG550 w/EMG 81, tuned in C standard

thanks

because i've learned from playing them that a separate head and speakers sound better and have more punch than a combo

Not necessarily.

But a 6505/5150 paired with a Mesa 4x12 would suit your styles fine. Consider looking for a 2x12 as well, easier to cart around and still retains killer sound. 6505+ 2x12 combo also comes to mind.

^ He's right 6505+/6505/5150 will do exactly what you need.

I used to have a 6505+ when I played the -core shit, my 6505+ nailed it. They can be had for decent prices on the used market.

used 5153 100w or new 5153 50w for the head 1000$

mesa 2x12 used 400$

trust me, I used to own a 6534+. the 5153's are lightyears ahead in high gain tone and versatility

I didn't mean it was bad. Probably should have typed "stuff" instead of "shit" oops aha.

Still though. 6505+ half stack will do what you want.

There are some -core bands I can stand and do enjoy from time to time.

Although, thrash and nwobhm will be forever better.

True enough.

Although I eventually regretted buying my 6505+ when I stopped listening to that genre 4 months later.

The 6505+ is more or less a one trick pony. If you ever plan on doing any sort of genre requiring sweet cleans, or 80's dance stuff like Prince or whatever, don't get it.

Also, look for a used Peavey JSX, they can be had for hella cheap on the used market, and you can do the core stuff really easily, if you can work an eq the right way

why limit to peavey and evh?

at your price range you could easily pick up a splawn, nitros are a beast. i have one.

what about mesa dual rec?

engl? may be a stretch as far as budget goes.

vht/fryette

etc.

there are a ton of very good amps out there in your range used.

Yeah, I've been quite the metal (including some core) fan since I was 12. 16 now and still going strong

I'm 17, I know how you feel.

Try and find an amp that can do more than just Metal, just in case you decide to expand your horizons a bit later on.

But for now, I vouch for the 6505

I'll definitely keep that in mind. Funny thing is I used to be one of those death and thrash elitists, absolutely hated all core. Idk what happened lol

You should test that one thoroughly first. Kranks really inspire a love / hate dichotomy among players, with most leaning towards hate.

+1 only the "+" model. krankenstein+ or even a revolution+ would be something to check out.
