need a bass for recording...help me out?
Alright, so im getting tired of using VST plugin basses and i want to get a real one. i need a 5 string, considering i use 7 string guitars... and i got some guitar center gift cards to use. i narrowed it down to these two:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier-...054-i1173424.gc http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-...446-i1443762.gc the squier seems like the best choice/deal, but im completely oblivious to the world of bass guitars. what exactly am i looking at with these two? what would be your choice? thanks a lot guys.

If you're going with heavier music (obviously you do when you use 7-strings), I would recommend you getting the ibanez. Better suited for heavier music with that humbucker pickup.

Out of those two the Ibanez is a clear winner but I strongly suggest you invest a bit more money and get something better. You could get something amazing for $250-300.

If 200 is all you have to spend go used. You can find killer deals used. Check craigslist, your local music shop or even guitar centers used section on their site. avoid anything with less than 4 stars and you'll be golden.

I think you should spend a little more money, but of the two on your list, go with the Squier.

Get a used SR305 for the same price.... IF you're really lucky you may be able to find a 505 for similar.
You were on the right track though, the Ibanez is infinitely better for your needs.

Go used, or increase budget. They're probably relatively on par quality wise, but the humbucker pickup is probably more suited to metal (although a J or P would still do the job perfectly fine). But a used Ibanez SR305 or Squier Vintage Modified Jazz V would be ridiculously better value.

well i picked up the ibanez in the OP, mostly because the others there were shit and the squier was royally beat to hell despite being "new". i plan on selling it within the year though. i'll use that money to pick up one of the ones you guys suggested. thanks for the help everyone!
