Thoughts on lessons over skype.
I am currently thinking about taking some guitar lessons to get a better playing perspective. Has anyone on here ever taken lessons through skype? I was wondering what are the advantages or disadvantages to skype lessons over regular lessons.

I've done it a couple times. Works great - unless you have a crappy connection.

What are people's experiences in terms of:
Latency: ie. playing something together between teacher and student? Tone: can you help a person with their tone given the audio quality of Skype? Other platforms: chatting with people over Google+ is WAY smoother than Skype, IMHO. CT

I've been teaching over Skype for the last 2 years @ DBGuitarLessons My experiences is: Latency...... you really can't jam together. tone..... yes you can help a person with their tone Compared to other chat programs I would say Skype is great, and more or less equally smooth. I would recommend Skype lessons with a good teacher to anyone other than a very young absolute beginner. Teen & adult beginners are no problem. It's pretty much the same thing as taking a lesson at a music store or a teachers house, except its much more convenient. Last edited by GuitarMunky : 08-27-2012 at 11:32 AM. |

Hi guys
I'm a professional teacher in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I looking at the feasibility of Skype lessons. Would any of you be interested in being a 'guinea pig' for me and get a lesson for free. You can find me performing on YouTube by searching 'Brian Keenan guitar' or visit my website at www.briankeenanguitarcentre.co.uk and email me from there. Look forward to hearing from you. Brian |
