GASing for a new amp
long story short im not wanting to keep the legacy anymore. its a great amp and i love the clean channel but the lead channel just isnt doing it for me. i play guitar in a giging punk/metal band and i need something that will cover all my bases from green day to volbeat. on my own i play metal similar to KSE or times of grace. the legacy DOES cover my needs and gets the job done but the tone of the amp isnt quite there. ive used el34's and 6l6's tried a hotter bias rolled preamp tubes. the works. its just too damn smooth.
anyway here is what im looking atmy normal rig is the legacy and a gt10 in 4 cable method. i use the AMP for all the tone and the gt10 for fx and eq THATS IT. option a: jet city jca100h and keep the gt10 for what im using for now. this amp seems like it can rip. im liking the tones from them. option b: spider valve for its DECENT tonal/flexable options. and yes ive tried the vyper tubes and no i dont like them option c: peavey xxx/jsx or something of the like with the gt10. cleans are important to me but a slamming drive channel is more important. i will be buying used and im trying to keep it under 500. thanks in advance.

Why mess around? That being said have you played the JC in person? Find one at local GC and test it out for a bit. Make sure it is what you want. See if they have a 6505 type as well. Not sure how your used market is but we have 5150s popping up here for 500.

Sometimes beat is cheap. Tolex can be repaired.
Question is- is that the tone you are after? Would you be compromising with the JC? I think you would get bored again after a bit.

I what way is it beat to death? Tolex isn't that expensive. If it's electrically/mechanically good and cheap because it needs new tolex, grab it. As an added benefit, you get to personalise your amp.

It looks like its been through hell and back and it's missing knobs and lord knows what else. A little update at my gig tonight one of the other guitar players was admiring my rig so I told him I was planning on selling it and he is gonna buy it when he gets paid. Yay! New Years gig and a deal on a sale. Woohoooo
