Pickstick problem?
Hi, i just got my first electric from my dad on christmas. Its an black ibanez electric guitar, and along with many neat features, it has a pickstick, so i don't have to use a pick all the time. The problem is that when i try to pick the stings with it, the strings get all wobbely and it dosnt sound good. Good guitarplayers like steve vai and alexi from children of bodom picks with the guitars pickstick in the solos and it sounds good, but when i try, i fail. Sorry for noob question, but my dad couldn't fix it for me.

Are you talking about a somewhat slender bar coming out from the right side of where the strings go into?
It sounds like you're trying to pick with a floating tremolo's whammy bar, while it's still attached to the bridge. If so, this is very very horrifyingly wrong.

While some of the best innovations came from people not knowing what they were doing, this isn't one of them.
Look up some videos on YouTube of how to play guitar, or if you want to spring for an instructional DVD. Better yet, a guitar teacher. Just... stop doing what you're doing right now.

The guy from (I think) Dinosaur Jr. holds the bar on his Jaguar with his pinkie and ring finger while he strums, gives it a cool worbly effect. I'm guessing this sounds like an extreme version of that, only much less playable.

Well, i dont see the point of having a bar like that if im not gonna use it... :/ Shuld i rather get a guitar whitout a wammy stick like that, like this or something?

Have you even tried to use it correctly? It's typically used to add a vibrato effect. And you don't have get a new guitar if you don't want to use it. Just don't use it and you're good. |

Oh My God. This guy is a serious troll or a complete noob. And I read one thread where he said he's "at least intermediate" guitarist and recommends people to use tabs to remember the notes on fretboard. In another thread he said bass is useless. And his name is "OperaIsNotMusic". I mean WTF? That really shows something about TS.
Sorry if I'm too harsh but I expected the TS to be troll. But after reading some of his posts/threads seems like he isn't.
