Styles of Bass pickups
Sorry for my total lack of bass knowledge but I need help with choosing a bass pickup. I am a guitarist by trade and I'm fixing up an old bass and its pickup was totally shot.
The pickup is was I believe to be a Schallar Twin Jazz pickup. What would be a similar pickup to replace it with?

It's a Kramer Headless Bass, for tone I'd like something more on the clean side that won't kill my wallet.

The pickup style is similar to this but there were two pickups under the same pickup cover

Me. (from what it sounds like the size is) Bartolini MM Pup.
Norstrand is making a splash these days, but I enjoy da Barts. I believe they make passives if this is not an active circuit. Come to think of it, I would probably look at DiMarzio's again if the situation came up again as I had some on my Handmade Rich and was happy with them. last experience with passives were on a jackson C20 Cerbo Bass from 2005. I was so impressed with the Pcikups I had to buy the Bass. That was a sledghammer. |

The bass in question sounds like a Kramer Duke, which has a twin Jazz pickup. An MM pup won't be a drop in replacement. TS, short of finding an old Schaller floating around on eBay or something, I can only think of a few places you could go for a drop-in replacement. MEC makes an active twin J, and I'm fairly sure Wizard Pickups in the UK would be able to make one. Delano also makes a quad-coil twin J. You could keep your eye out for a used Fender one, American Deluxe Precisions used to come with a twin Jazz pup in the bridge position, but it's unlikely you'll find one unattached from the original bass.

IIRC Rio Grande pickups makes TJ style pickup.
Just be aware of their long wait periods.
