Is this worth it?
I own a Hughes and Kettner Tour Reverb 100 head, and i recentle found a Marshall Mode Four Head for 250 dollars. should i sell my current Hughes and Kettner for as much as possible and buy the Marshall? i like my H&K, but the marshall is a powerhouse. I play Country, Southern Rock, 80's metal, and modern Hardcore type stuff. i think it's worth it.

If you think it's worth it, do it.
I'd personally keep the H&K though.

What is e value of your amp? The mode fours don't sell for very much. Not all tube so no one really wants them on top of the fact no one knows what the hell they are.

find an ampeg R50H. i can hit all those tones with an od pedal to tighten it up for the modern stuff. should cost $350-400.

well reasons why:
mode four amps are the best of the worst when it comes to SS amps. I've never been impressed with them and having played two at relatively high volumes (there was no one else in the store!) I can safely say that, IMO, they are not very good amps. 2D cleans (lifeless), crunch was very meh and you could tell it was SS, the high gain was decent though. unless you're playing super brootz death metal the M4 is not a step in the right direction. it won't be much of an upgrade either. The Mode 4 amps look pretty cool though. gotta hand it to them there. I got you current amp confused with the Statesman model, my bad. Do you have a budget? I assume you'll go used, where are you located? |

let's say you sell the H&K, that could bring you anywhere from $200 to $400 depending on where and how you sell it.
maybe you get $300, and based on the used market at least around DFW where I am should not be difficult at all. $300 will get you a Peavey Classic 30 or 50, great amps for everything you listed except the hardcore. a boost will put it in Thrash territory. if you slowly save then a Peavey JSX is about $500 and will do anything you want, or a Marshall DSL401 combo. |

If your going to sell it for a new amp why not a blue voodoo $200-250 shipped all day.
