how are the chinese V30s compared to the UK ones?

They're V30s, not bluebacks... IMO it's really not a difference making a fuss over.

Same thing, according to Celestion. Same processes and parts, and the parts were made in China the last few years of UK production anyways. Marshall, Mesa and a few other manufacturers still have custom V30s manufactured in the UK to different specs as well.

I try not to buy Chinese products, so I would look at WGS, Eminence,Weber,Fane are what I would suggest looking at.

Agreed, if you're in the States WGS is usually cheaper anyways.

Not tying to hijack your thread or anything, but does anyone know what type of V30's come in the mesa recto cabs?

Pretty much all of my v30 expereince is through a 212, and 412 recto cabs. I did try another cab once (cant remember the make right now) that had v30's, but it didnt have near the same bottom end as my mesa.

I've been told that it also has something to do with the heavier ply wood that the mesa cabs are made out of. Not sure if thats completly true tho, but the thing does weigh a ton!!

I do recall the orange 212 with v30's sounding very similar to my 212 mesa. I thought it had slightly less bottome end, compared to the mesa.

mesa V30's are a model that you used to beable to buy, but they are only sold trough Mesa now. I also believe that Engl uses the same V30 as mesa.
Actualy Avatar used to sell them under their hellatone name they were the Hellatone 60L. it had more of a low-mid spike vs the typical high-mid spike of the V30.

Another reason Mesa Recto cabs have lots of low-end is they are larger than your typical cabs. more air space=more low-end

I love the cab, but its a bit of a hassle to lug back and forth to practice. I really want to pick up a 412 if I can get a good deal on one. Then I could leave the 412 at our rehersal space, and have the 212 at home

+1 to WGS, they are amazing speakers, especially considering their price.

I wouldn't be surprised if their prices start raising with their popularity... Better get in b4 the lock.

I don't care for Eminence in general really. They just don't sound great to me, and they cost too much to be good alternatives to Celestion. Just IMO.

Don't really know anything about Weber or Fane, but I've heard they're good.

Which WGSs do you recommend for a good all around, versatile and balanced sound? Blues, Alt Rock, Sludge/Stoner, Classic Metal...

Mesa V30's are a proprietary design that have only ever been available to Mesa. Their ID codes are different and have never been used or sold by Celestion beforehand.
The Hellatone 60L is actually the Marshall version of the 70 watt V30. Also a different speaker, with a different code.

No they have been available before and like I said Engl uses the same V30 as mesa it is not a proprietary design, well at least not originaly. It was a V30 with a diff dust cap. Now you are right you can only get the type of V30 Mesa uses from Mesa or Engl.

Celestion custom drivers are mostly BS they are normal models that they re-name/re-code for other companys. Example: The Egnater custom 80 speakers are nothing more than 70/80's with a custom sticker for the brand.

Here are some ID codes for you. Engl use the standard Chinese V30's. Along with Orange and every other brand except Marshall and Mesa. I've owned them all. I can post more examples if you need.
