Help me decide on an amp
I'm looking at buying a high gain head and a 4x12 cab but I don't really know what to look for.
The other guitarist in the band plays through a Blackstar ht stage 100. I have looked at the Peavey Valveking 100 but I'm not sure about how it compares or other options. Probably looking at spending between the Peavey and Blackstar prices. Any advice or help would be appreciated. |

Where are you located, and what's your budget.
Prices vary from country to country.

Well Peavey and Blackstar have amps in the $1,299 - 1,799 range respectively so lets just make this easier on you and us. Try this instead:

Well I did say I was looking somewhere in the range of the Peavey and Blackstar amps, the aforementioned models being most likely what I was talking about. I don't really want to spend more than £1000. Pretty unnecessary to post a condescending link because you didn't read it properly.
I'm looking for something that can achieve a high gain tone, like I said. I like to play the likes of Sylosis, Trivium, Lamb Of God. I'd like something with the versatility to produce a pop pop punk tone like A Day To Remember to something like the tone Rammstein use. I don't mind used as long as it's in perfect working order. It'd be for both home and gig but I do have a practice amp if it was too much for bedroom practice. I live in Liverpool, UK I played through a Valveking 212 combo when I gigged but I've only been practicing through a Line 6 Spider, 15 watt or something of late. My Guitar is a Jackson DK2 Advice would be appreciated |

We did read it, you just left out important information. Location is kind of important, American prices and UK prices differ, especially on the used market.
Had you said location and styles to begin with, we wouldn't have asked. Read the stickies before posting, that's why we have them JSX would suit what you want nicely. EQ it right and you don't need a boost to do the modern metal stuff. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/p...sale/1005114148 Theres a head within your price range. Is the 4x12 necessary? You might be able to get away with a 2x12

+311 it took forever to get that sticky-ed and is the simplest and most brief way is that list. JSX's are pretty good amps for the buck. why limit to peavey and blackstar? would you consider jet city or hell even a marshall or an orange?

I'm not limiting it to Peavey or Blackstar, they were just two amps I've had experience with. I was hoping for other suggestions too

I've only been here for two years, but reading stickies is the first thing you (should) do on ANY online forum. It's common sense. Like reading the wiring diagram for pickups, or the instruction manual for your new toaster (pssh). I'll stand by the JSX comment 100%, but Orange would be my next bet.

Ok, as much as I would love to just start throwing random amp head names at you, you're really leaving out a ton of information we need to help you. For instance, what genre of music are you playing? If you're in a blues band, I don't think you want an amp like the 6505+.

Are Mesa amps pretty hard to get used in the UK? I thought about a Mark IV, but idk if you could get a used one in your budget.

For Rammstein, both guitarists use Dual Recs in combination with Voodoo Amps, Soldano Decatone and Avenger for Lead and Uberschall and Powerball for Rhythm.

Unfortunately Mesa amps aren't too rare, but they're ridiculously priced, I mean, a regular Dual Recto sells here for £2000 or so, and it sells for $2000 or so in the US. It's painful, but the tradeoff is that we get Orange cheaper, so I'm happy. For you, however, I'd say a nice Peavey 6505+ combo. This is the amp that Trivium use most of the time. I've recommended the 1x12 combo as I'm honestly not sure how big the gigs you play are and arguably 1x12 combos are very versatile in terms of size, and you could always get an extension cab, something like this maybe: http://www.thomann.de/gb/peavey_650...o_b_stock_3.htm (the 6505) http://www.northeastguitar.co.uk/or...peaker-cab.html (an Orange PPC112) Orange cabs are amazing build quality, speakers are Vintage 30s, it's closed back so it may be better suited for the high gain stuff, and it's made of ply. You can't really lose.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm just reading into them now and listening to demos.
I'll let you know what I do if anybody is ultimately interested |

Please do, although im pretty sure you turned most people off by not reading the stickies advising what to post to help us help you when making a What Amp thread, then chucking mud at the first guy to suggest you do so. ![]() |
