Django Unchained and black people stuff
I just watched this video: http://live.huffingtonpost.com/#r/s...8c90a7ed6000142
read this: http://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...0,6205870.story and I read some other articles about the depiction of black people and the use of the n word (which you can find anywhere) and most of them are complaining about the overuse of the n word (it was used over 100 times) and and torturous violence forced upon black people in the film. Spike Lee notably (as usual) thinks it's offensive to his ancestors and pledged not to watch it. So of course the next logical step is to come to the pit and ask how far is too far in terms of how much language and how much violence is used in movies that deal with the topic of racism. Like, should black people be offended by this stuff? Should white people be laughing at the humoristic use of the n word? Or should everybody just lighten up and watch the movie? |

"White people should feel bad." is the only answer here.

I'm calling that in less than 4 hours, a white person will be arguing that he should be able to say nigger whenever he wants.

On the actual topic of the thread. I don't care if they said ****** a lot in the movie or made slavery look horrible because the last thing we need is dolled-up depictions of the shitty things that people have done in the past.
I mean, quentin tarantino has had an interesting relationship with the word ****** in the past (the more i think about it, his use of it in Pulp Fiction was beyond unnecessary) but I'm really not gonna get up in arms about him making slave owners look like terrible racist assholes.

QT's response to Spike Lee is valid: If he [Lee] can use the word ******, so can anyone else.
I mean, how the **** do you make a film in the slavery period without using the word ******? "Get that ****** picking that cotton" "Don't use the n word bro, it's totally offensive" At which point the slave owner rolls his eyes in disgust and makes a sarcastic comment, something along the lines of "I'm sorry, I thought we were living in the 1800s, but I have to check my calendar now".

God damn liberals have to get so butthurt about everything and try to make everything politically correct. It's a movie about the past. The past was not kind to black people in the American south. All my complaining niggas need to shut the hell up and get over it.

Whoa. Hold the **** up. I don't think either side of the political spectrum was mentioned. Black people are mad because a derogatory term was said over 100 times. It's pretty much the same thing as putting "Shavorules42 is a little bitch" into a movie over 100 times.

Liberal here, I support the accurate depiction of the American South circa 1800. Problem? |
