Yes, Gojira and other Death Metal bands. You'll also find a lot of stupidass Metalcore bands that do their best to imitate that sound.

Also, you may want to learn more about Black Metal. Black Metal, as a general rule, NEVER uses breakdowns.

Black Metal*ESQUE*

And yeah I've heard plently of death/metalcore bands that sound like this, I wanted good songs though. I only know of a handfull of songs that have riffs like this, wanted to broaden my musical horizon to bands that I hadn't heard of.

I'm saying that's a bad term to describe this. As for songs, um...try some Killswitch Engage.

That really wasn't "Black Metal*ESQUE*" though. I think that's what he was saying.

I didn't know what to call it, hence the semi-obscure thread title
I wasn't saying that that was black metal, at all, I just wanted stuff that sounded like it, like this
can we all just not argue about genre clasifications and spam this thread with songs please maybe.

Exactly!

Um...also, maybe try some Acacia Strain. The Agonist (melodic death metal) often uses breakdowns tastefully. BTBAM obviously. A fair amount of true hardocre bands. Shadows Fall.

I can't really recommend more. I basically just went through my iTunes music to find those.

I don't really get what you want though.

Riffs that are just trem picked over kicks? That isn't really that hard to find :/

And if Gojira had a type of riff that was kind of their thing it would be the ones like this

Sorry for the noobmusicfan mistake, guys, links to specific songs you'd recommend?

Yeah that would have been a better description, long drawn-out riffs with a *dgugugugugugu* in the background

Songs wouldn't help. Bands would. Look up bands. Start digging into their music. I gave you a very good short list. Go nuts.

I'm pretty sure that's where Gojira got the idea from.
