You might want to try another forum, like Musicians Talk or ^ that. The Pit won't be much help to you.

I'd go for E-harmonic-minor.

E - F# - G - A - B - C - D# - E

It's got the minorness for the dark feel and the major seventh for a bit of spice.

For dark sounds, my favorite method is to turn off the lights.

lololol

if you're looking for a box shape, which i assume you are, use an Em or G one (the box shapes are identical).

if you want to move beyond box shapes, you should learn about music theory.

Try the R# harmelodic dorian scale.

The E minor scale will work just fine too.

1) Don't put this in MT. 2) You shouldn't use scales.

Rather you should be composing things as a whole.

I would recommend using the chromatic scale.

I agree with this neidnarb.

You want dark? Music theory will allow for you to use any note in the chromatic scale in some way, just work with it.

E minor harmonic will do, or E harmonic minor.

or you could use E minor over Em, G major over G and A minor over Am.

or B prygian maybe

or try adding B notes over Em and GM and C notes over Am

go learn your god damn theory. there is so much you can do. actually, for that darker sound.. see those lightbulbs that may be in the back of your amp? unscrew them . might be the best solution for you

Scales are easy, it's getting Rath plates that's the problem. I recommend playing on HR and then just doing tail runs, they have the highest percentage chance.

btw, OP, if you want to stick with those four notes,
try E, G, A, D over Em
G, B, C and F# over G
and A, C, D, G over Am

should give a nice modulated sequence or whatever it's called in english

wait. actually since you are using a D, don't use E harmonic minor
