What Scale is This?
Hi guys, I'm normally ok with working out scales, especially when I have Guitar Pro at my side, but I'm a little unsure about this one...
Is it C Major? Is it G Bebop? Is it D Bebop Minor? Is it D Bebop Dorian? Is it something else? ...or just an absolute mess? The 8 notes used are D,E,F,F#,G,A,B,C Thanks

Well, you might have noticed that D Bebop Dorian and G Bebop Dominant have the same notes. That's a giveaway that you can't really identify a scale by listing the notes alone.
Where does it resolve? (I don't have a GP5 player, so can't help with that). But, I mean, it could just be a C major with a #4 added. It's not like you don't see that sort of thing all the time. You can use chromatic notes in almost any context if you know what you're doing - it's not always (or even often) productive to come up with a scale name to describe the collection of notes you're using even when it's uniquely possible. Where's it resolve? |

Goddamnit, there's no such thing as a bebop scale. Who the hell is putting all these ******ed ideas in your head?

It's just a C scale with an added flat 5

Fundamentally, you don't know how scales work. That's why this is all so confusing to you. Go back to the very basics and clear up those misconceptions and this will become extremely easy to understand. But at the same time, truly understanding how they work also means the realization that they don't work in music the way you think it does, and it also means there's no such thing as a goddamn bebop scale.

D bebop minor isn't a key. Do you know which note it resolves to, ie sounds like 'home'?

How do you get that progression resolving to D? That's not what I hear at all. |

If you're ill and google (or wiki) the symptoms, it will inevitably suggest that you have cancer. That also applies here for music. You have musical cancer right now.
