How to replicate this?
Hey guys, here's a link to a song and there is an effect on the vocals of which I would like to emulate for my own mix. I've linked it at the right time, I'm using Reaper as my DAW, I don't mind downloading an external plugin (All be it, free).
The quality of the recording isn't brilliant, but the effect is on the vocals, they seem to quickly come in and out. I'm not sure what it is called or how to copy it, I've heard it on other recordings before. Any help would be appreciated. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...LF4imTNg#t=124s |

This is just a guess, but you might try editing the volume envelope of the vocal track to go from full to 0 instantaneously.

Stutter Edit is an easy way to get the effect if you don't want to go for it yourself: http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/stutteredit/
But what Carson said is pretty right on. Its gonna take some volume & filter automating.

It's basically chopping the scream by splitting the track and putting silence where you want it and scream where you want it, followed by an automated pitch shifter bringing it down.
You can use ReaPitch for the pitching effect and the chopping is simple to do in Reaper. To split a track you just click where you want to split and press S |
