I play guitar and have a proper "intermidiate player rig". I'm now trying to get a proper bass rig to learn to play and use it in reharsals. I'm trying to spend less than 800$ to get a proper bass and a combo amp. The bass I would prefer with humbuckers since I play rock and metal (I don´t understand basses very well but I think that would be right), and the combo should be loud enough to play with a drummer and not being full blast. It will be more difficult to find something used as I live in Portugal and I would have a 0.01% chance to find a bass amp even more something that I would like, so I'm really trying to find something in that range although I can stretch a bit. But again I wouldn't be needing something that has too much power and the bass doesn't have too be the best in the world since I'm just starting. Something that I was kind of fancying was the epiphone thunderbird pro IV and a behringer BXL1800A but I also heard that it wouldn't be a good combo even to start. Hope you can help.

According to the interwebz, your budget is +- 600 eur. An Ibanez SR300 (should be about 300eur, active Humbuckers) and a Gallien Krueger MB-115 (About 290-350 depending on shop or b-stock).

Squier VM Jazz or Precision bass, or maybe a MiM standard used.

Perhaps a fender rumble 150, or scour craigslist.

I just saw an SWR WorkingPro combo used for just under $400, which I would buy right now if I had cash on hand.

Ibanez BTB400 and a Genz Benz Neox 400112T Combo.

There has to be some of these in Europe as I find very few in the US.

I know they made more then a few hundred of either of these.

Avoid Behringer like the plague. Yes they're cheap, but if you want quality gear that'll last you shouldn't even consider a Behringer amp.

Either the TC or the GK would be good choices. As for the bass, I'd say the Squier VM P or the SR300 would be the best choices (IMO), both are very solid, versatile basses. If you like the VM Precision look at the Classic Vibe Squiers too. Avoid the Thunderbird unless you can try one out first, they're very much love-it or hate-it basses so if you've never played one it's probably not a good idea to buy blind.

The thunderbird pro is a lot of bass for your money but I'd never think of any Thunderbird as a first bass. They are really hard to play and it is all because of the balance of the instrument and all caused by the lack of a horn to fix the top strap mount on. You have to constantly pull the instrument back into position and this is really tiring after an hours playing, it can be off putting. I love the sound of mine and the neck is great but it does make life difficult.
