Disposal of old computers
If I have an old computer I want to get rid of, and I don't want some hobo hacker to find my laptop and retrieve my data (eg. naked photos of myself, obviously) even though I deleted my files, what do I do?

Do I take a hammer to it?
Dip the whole thing in water?
Put it in the oven?

I have always wondered about this. I have about 4 dead old laptops in my house all the way back from 2005.

Then get in touch with your local authority for appropriate disposal.

Take out the hard drives. Either sell or recycle the rest (if there's anything newer, it might still be worth selling for a small amount).
With the hard-drives, just smash them up or take them apart and burn the actual disk. Or hammer it to pieces. Then recycle the remnants.

I have a laptop that broke like 4 years ago, I can't get myself do destroy or get rid of it... I don't know why, I may be an electronics hoarder because I've never actually thrown away anything that has to do with electronics, it's all in a box hidden.
