The SuperStrat Thread
There are threads about various models: Ibanez, Jackson, Kramer etc. but no general threads about the SuperStrat Design.
So what are your favorite SuperStrats and what do you like about them? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superstrat

What's the point in this thread?
A MIJ Ibanez RG cannot be beat.

My favorite designs:
http://www.vintagekramer.com/company12.htm http://www.vintagekramer.com/stage.htm Back in the 80s these designs were revolutionary. Since then they have been copied by almost every other guitar maker, except for the metal-loaded Showster design which was patented by Excellente and not sold to Gibson. I also like the design of the Ibanez Trems.

That is basically what EVH did? Took a Strat body and put a humbucker in the bridge and installed a locking trem.

I'm a big fan of carved top SuperStrats (ESP Horizons, etc). I own a couple (LTD MH400 and H1007).

as long as it's SUPER and can do what no normal strat can .um.. i'm kinda missing the point of this thread myself. a super strat design is a strat style guitar with humbuckers not much to talk about there. as for the various models put out over the years well seems like ibanez made the most of it. played charvel and kramer's in the 80s both were decent. |

I've owned several Floyd Rose equipped SuperStrats, but I've never owned an Ibanez. For those who have owned both, How would you compare the FR to Ibanez Trems?

Depends on the Ibanez trem, but just avoid the Edge 3 seems to be the consensus.

i pretty much like all superstrats
they're just awesome. really liked the tyler i tried. silly money, though, and it's not like you have to go anywhere near that money to get a good guitar. vigiers are very nice, too.

played one a few years back. it had a funky trem of their own design which was ok but not great. the guitar itself played and sounded great but the price was really high and it didn't sound that great. |

Basically I'm interested in these improvements: "... The Edge offers a number of improvements from the Original Floyd Rose, namely locking studs (for improved tuning stability, added in 1987-8), a spring retainer on the tremolo block (again, added in 1987-8) and a pop-in arm." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibanez_Edge

you might be better off looking at the newer edge zero which uses ball sockets and has been proven to be a better system overall. |

The edge zero does look like a superior system. I especially like the ease of setting intonation. Setting intonation on a FR is not so easy. Also like the spring tension knob. I string my FR guitar with the ball through the tuning pegs, so the the ball through saddle design is not that attractive to me.

Are super strats like regular strats, but with laser beams and stuff?
