I want to sing, but my voice sounds bad

I'm in the process of writing music, and I really do love singing. The problem is that when I record my voice and listen to it it sounds horrible. I can hit notes and carry my voice, but it just sounds bad. A little too nasally and I don't think it sound pleasant to listen to.

Would taking vocal lessons help? More specifically, would they be able to help me sing in a way to where it didn't sound bad? I think I might have a deviated septum which could account for the nasal sound, but I'm also wondering if there is a way around this.

I don't have time to record my voice right now but I can try and do it later tonight if that would help.

Your voice is probably a lot better than you think.
But if you hear your own voice for the first time, most people tend to be surprised.
Why not speed up or raise the pitch in your voice to see if it really matches the music?

I've recorded myself several times and listened to it, my voice always seems stuffy or something.
