Type of song for guitar competition

Hello guys !

There is a local guitar competition in April and i'm busting my ass to figure out the song type with which i'm gonna preform.

Do you have any suggestions of some particular song of some popular artist that i should look up to ?

I'm not trying to rip anybody off i'm just looking the structure or melody that fits for competition.
I started with YJM but nowdays it's all about Vai, Johnson and maybe a liitle of Becker.
I think that for event like that the song should be melodic major song with powerfull riffs so if you have any suggestions i would owe you big time !

Well that's your first mistake. Great musicians are those who have figured out how to rip other people off creatively.

Plunder those influences like a pirate of guitar & create something new from them.

Drink up, me hearties.
Yo ho.

that requires internalizing the music

which requires listening to music

and not wanking for 3 hours to john petrucci vids on youtube thinking that guitar is the godliest of godlies and that you are to be amongst the king of kings

i'm gonna go join this guitar competition, TS, and i'm gonna outshred you on bass. just to ruin the next 4 months of preparation for you
