When you pick up an instrument do you..

So I'm just curious as to what most people do when they pick up a guitar. Do you play a song you already know from another artist? Or do you just sort of dabble around making up your own stuff as you go? Just wondering because I used to just strictly play songs that I learned from tabs or tabbed them out myself. Now I usually just play little ideas and try to come up with my own stuff.

Usually I play around with riffs I've recently been working on. I guess I just don't know many songs by other people by heart.

I just dabble around first. I guess i should really check if it's tuned properly first, but I can usually tell if it isn't.

I usually jam over a pentatonic for a few minutes just to warm up my fingers and get my brain thinking. Then either move onto more chorded stuff, or just jump straight into it if I'm with a band.

I don't think salt affects how smooth the butter is. But definitely unsalted.

For the most part on electric I'm doing loop pedal improv, but really it's a bit of everything.
On my acoustic I tend to do more song based stuff, be it my own or covers.

I used to only play songs I'd learnt from tabs, nowadays though I usually just do some random made up riffs, chord progressions and pentatonic licks. Well I think they are pentatonic licks but as I know absolutely no theory they could be anything

Usually warm up my fingers and get my timing in check with songs I know, then go on to playing improvised stuff.
