i would like to cover songs of the black keys and my current guitar broke in half, so now im looking for a new one. the maximum amount of money i would like to spend is $499 on the guitar and i already have a fender mustang 1 amp. in most of their songs they use a harmony h78 which isnt for sale anymore. which guitar comes the closest?

Just buy an old Teisco on eBay and spend the rest of your money on plaid shirts, tight pants, and getting the guitar set up to be playable.

What do mean by "my guitar broke in half"? To answer your question any semi-hallow body with humbuckers or P-90s would work.

You could get an Epi Dot and spend the rest on fuzz pedals

My buddy has an Airline which I think are pretty inexpensive. Looks a lttle Jag like and sounds awesome. We do some Black Keys and it is perfect.

Which part broke in half? The neck? The body? Did it break vertically?
What's the story here?

Richmond Guitars Canada- a Godin subsidiary- offers the Belmont and the Empire, both in your price range.
http://www.richmondguitarscanada.com/guitars.html The Belmont: http://www.jimlaabsmusic.com/guitar.../prod_6657.html That's a Seymour Duncan '59 humbucker in the bridge, and Seymour Duncan Lipstick pickups in the middle & neck. Should do a good job of giving you retro sounds a la The Black Keys. The Empire: http://www.amazon.com/Richmond-Empi...h?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It offers a choice between having a bridge humbucker paired with something analogous to a P90 in the neck, or having a pair of P90s- again, both good combos for going retro.
