Lightweight Cab?
I'm thinking about trying out an Electro-Harmonix 44 Magnum 44W power amp. I'm looking for a lightweight cab to go with it, loud enough to play with a drummer, and preferably cheap. Thanks!

I was looking at the Jet City actually, what about the Blackstar Venue Series HTV-212?

It's not so much the cab I'd be worried about...I don't know if the EHX .44 will be loud enough for a drummer...what sort of music are you playing? Are you aware that you'll need a preamp?

Basically we play a lot of different stuff. I was looking for a cheap amp with a lot of clean headroom and the .44 got a lot of good reviews. I plan on using mainly pedals with it. |

The .44 is the entire amp, it is just a volume and bright switch. Yes pedals or a POD/MFX would be Ideal, but not nessisary It should be plenty loud it is a 44 watt amp ![]()

Yeah, all I need out of it is a nice clean that can be loud, and that it can take effects well. Hopefully it is right for me! |

Ah, alright. I thought the Caliber line by EHX were solely poweramps. My bad. Regardless, you might want to look into an EQ pedal. There won't be a lot of tone shaping options available.

Wait it might just be a power amp. If that was the case, what would I need to do? Like I said, I really only want it for cleans and then using pedals for everything else. |

No it is the entire amp (pre and power) it just has very minimal controls. Liadback is right though a EQ would probably be a good Idea if you don't already have one. There are video's on youtube that show what the .44 and the smaller .22 are capable of

I just checked the manuel on the Electro Harmonix page, this is what it said: "The 44 MAGNUM was designed with the guitar in mind and can be used alone, or with your favorite preamp driving the input to the 44 MAGNUM." Last edited by Jackolope : 01-17-2013 at 11:17 AM. |

"Can be used alone" = its the ENTIRE amp. The second part of that setence simply means you can drive it harder with the addition of another preamp... |

I have the HTV-212 - it sounds great with my Jet City JCA20 and Valve Jr. running side by side in stereo. Plenty loud, and it's actually relatively lightweight for a 212 cab.

I think I am going to go with a Jet City Amplification JCA12S+ 1x12. I think a 1x12 is all I need, and I can get another if needed, thanks for all the help! Think it's the right choice?

If you want a clean platform you might be disappointed. I can't imagine the Magnum having much clean headroom..

From what I've seem people say it breaks up anywhere from 12 to 3 o'clock, but most say it's loud enough at 9:00. I guess if it turns out to break up at a bad volume I could get another head, it's only $150 after all. |

You'd be better off looking for a used Crate Power Block. 150 watts of solid state pedal platform power.

A Mesa V Twin pedal into a Crate Powerblock!! That would be a minimalist set up!!
